Jeffbert, I've only been on this forum for a few months but you were a good moderator. I can imagine being a moderator bot being easy and it is a little strange to see 'Senior Member' underneath your name.

I do wish you luck with everything.

I also wish Fauna good luck. Congratulations on your new position as a mod.

...Oh geez what are you planning

Nah, I'm kidding. I'm not sure what an "ear biter" is, but I assume it has to do with all the talking-tos I've handed out over the past few months. ^^;

And thank you, you guys.

EDIT: I just got rid of a crass spam thread in the General Discussion area, right after it was created! I'm useful already!

I hate to bring up strife, so I will just say, I am sorry there was a conflict; I wish you well in your new task, Fauna. I hope the others gave you a good idea of what to expect as a mod. Thanks for the good wishes, I am a long way from completion, though.

I think I am the most senior member of all, at least as far as # of posts goes. :hyo:

I don't know if he did it in the end (and Fauna probably had seen it anyway), but Vergere had suggested to Mark that he may want to quote part of your own post in this thread in his invitation. ;)

I was kind of telling myself that nobody would want to become a moderator after you wrote that! :p But, seriously, it's absolutely right, it's better to know what to expect in advance than ending up miserable.

Oh, you mean this post:
"jeffbert" wrote:...
the mods, myself included recently spent many hours discussing tactful ways of handling various problems, and such. We do things that some members will never know about, depending on what time we or they visit the forum. You cannot even imagine how many topics there are on the moderators' forum, or how many post there are in some of these threads. We learned the hard way how to deal with these problems, and it took many hours of discussion on some of them when the site owner Mark first selected a moderating team some 5 years ago. Since then, we have reacted quicker to some of these problems, but occasionally there are new ones. Of course the topic of controversy itself was one of them, and I dealt with it as I saw fit. But I am out of the mainstream, so it seems, & my way cost us the loss of at least one member; this I regret.

I am working on an ASTROBOY book, which seems to be ever expanding in its scope, & taking more of my time than I ever thought it would. Thus, I find relinquishing moderator status should give me more time to work on the book, & I might actually enjoy the forum, instead of finding it often burdensome.

To whomsoever should become a moderator in my stead, I think you will find the task challenging, sometimes tedious, but rewarding...
:astro:

I suppose it must be that one.

Yes, anyone who expects being a moderator merely means having the power of life & death over the other members :d evil:, who fear that you might ban them, has a very one-sided view of the position. :hyo: It has more to do, in my case, with needing something to do; though I think the camaraderie was the best part. As mods, we worked together to solve these problems; & I being retired, really enjoyed that element. :D I think it is a great experience, though having been a mod for so long deprived others of the opportunity, I am glad to make room for another person; who knows, that might enhance one's resume.

Good luck, Fauna!

Especially since I don't think we were ever scary to begin with.

We will still listen to what you have to say, but you know that already. ;)

YAY, us!! :p :p

Okay -- here's a question -- why do locations of all the little Emoticons jump around except for Astro, Tenma and Hyotsuga-whatever? I thought I was imagining it, but I'm NOT!!
