Have you seen the English version, Louis'74? It doesn't start with a recap of Astro being built, the title says "Astroboy" rather than just "Astro", and there are extra scenes of Astro throwing Frankenstein on his head and lasering a giant octopus.
The French music seems to have a few more trumpet bits added in. And of course, it's all in French. After listening to it I started to think that Astro seems kind of French!

Yes, in fact I've got all 17 VHS-Tapes from the 80's series which I've bought in dec. '02 by
Siren Entertainment. I was quite surprised 'bout the english opening sequence which shows more scenes than the french version :wahah: .On the other hand, the french
ending version I've kept in mind has shown Astro telling to a computer a short summary
of his adventure :) :) . Nevertheless the fact that 18 years have gone by since i saw the
french version, the soundtrack of these ending scenes still rings in my mind  :D .
As far as I can remember, the synchronisation was very fine. Astro's voice was hit prefect,
and so was Dr. Elephan's (his name in french: professeur Caudrine :P ).
But I think, the french eps were a little edited, since I've seen scenes from the english
version that didn't show up in the french one then :o . Who knows - maybe time schedule
reasons  .
If You are interested - here is the link to the french fan site Astro, le petit robot.
(Though I assume, You're already introduced with that site :D :D , but a link too much
can never be enough :wahah:  :D :) )

Yes, I know that site. :) As I recall, the French name for Astro's dog Jump translates as "Feather". Is that right?

That extra footage with Astro's summary to the computer sounds intriguing. I'm sure I downloaded a French episode from Anapan's ftp server a while ago. I'll have to dig it up and take another look.

And I know what you mean by having all the memories come back to you, even though I never went more than a few years without watching Astroboy.
It reminds me of a teddy bear I found in my cupboard a few years ago. It was a little panda I called Baby Panda. When I was seven years old I took it with me when my family travelled around the world. Finding it almost 20 years later was the weirdest thing because my last memory of it was in the form of a child's emotion. Image So that was the first sensation that hit me, and for a moment I felt like I was seven years old again. And this object, which was nothing more than a stuffed toy, suddenly represented security and companionship. It was a strange feeling to have hit me as an adult coming from a child's toy. I just had to give it a hug.
I think I'm rambling but you get what I mean!

You're absolutely right, I go through the same experiences as You. Somehow ev'ry emotion you've had as a child - good or bad doesn't matter - appears again when you see, smell or feel something relative that has been there in your childhood. In my case it's of course Astroboy and a little sleeping pillow I've had, when my mom used to tuck me in bed   . The latter thing I've just rediscovered in my laundry bag a few weeks ago  :D . Guess who's now my compagnon for falling asleep :D :D :D   .

Well I think, the dog's name was translated as "Plume", though I'm not sure 'bout that  .

When I was seven years old I took it with me when my family travelled around the world.

So, Philias Phogg, tell us about your travels. I for one, would be very interested.

I just downloaded the french 80's ending credits from eMule :wahah: . Picture and sound are in much better quality than in the earlier mpg-link I've posted in this thread.
It's a very beautiful closing theme version, I like it a lot  .

I would love this to upload on anapans ftp, but still haven't found out how to do that  .
Any help? Please? Maybe....?

I lie awake at night dreaming of being able to connect to Anapan's ftp server again. That and being spat at in the face. Bloody favouritism.
Sorry, slipped into Monty Python. :)
