You missed the first ep :( but they show it at 5:30 and 9:30pm.....

Anyway it DEFINATELY starts on Thursday the 15th although i can't remember the time... about 4pm i guess...

Anyway i don't have plans to watch it on ABC seeing as i can see it on Cartoon Network and i'm entering the competition on there too...besides it is as uncut as possible. And by looking at the cuts they aren't too bad so i think they probably did dub the whole thing and we might be lucky to get a bilingual release. I'm hoping we get the 5.1 sound and 16:9 format which the episodes are meant to be in ¬_¬ I borrowed the first Japanese DVD off a friend but have yet to watch it and see how wonderful the sound + picture is.

:wahah:

/monotone voice of old SBS presenter
"I will be carving that date in to my forearms and stapling my thighs to my chair so I do not miss that one."

Rollercoaster said 4:30pm, but I'll probably be hitting record around 3:00pm just in case. :D

About ABC showing the 80s series, I suspect they sold the rights to show it in the early 90s during the big budget cuts they had then (and when Pay TV was introduced). Siren Entertainment probably has the rights in Australia now.

I just got an e-mail from SFSA, Astroboy will be replacing TinTin in the 5:25pm timeslot (they received publicity material from the ABC). Note that this timeslot is missing from the Rollercoaster web site programme guide.
It will show every Thursday from the 15th.

ABC is promoting the new series of Astroboy on their website:

Program summary
Astroboy
Power Up
5:25pm Thursday, 15 April

ABC TV is bringing 25 new episodes of Astro Boy to a fresh generation, with this modern update on a cult-hit series!

Astro Boy is the exciting tale of a permanently youthful atomic-powered robot who must fight for justice and peace in a society that scorns his kind.

Living among a 'retro-futuristic' society populated by humans and robots, Astro Boy is the first robot with advanced intelligence and human-like emotions. He's clever, resourceful and has a strong sense of justice, always attempting to reason with his adversaries. Mankind's only hope of surviving an onslaught of wicked robots is a robot... the fearless, selfless, incorruptible champion known as Astro Boy.

Astro Boy has a rich history on television. In 1963, this robotic boy with the strength of 100,000 horses became the star of one of Japanese TV's first anime shows. The show was a smash hit and Astro Boy became the first Japanese show imported to the US. Astro Boy spread out to other countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia.

Production Details
Created by Tezuka Osamu. Astro Boy is produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan and Tezuka Productions.

'retro-futuristic' society

Yes, it is very retro. One episode features a wind up Victrola-style record player.

For you youngsters, records served the same purpose as music CDs, but they were much larger, and they fidelity was inferior to CDs.

I remember an ep. of Cowboy Bebop, in which they receive and old Betamax video tape, and have fun just trying to figure out what it is!

Hi Fasty

Yeah, that's the 80s version. The first 26 Japanese episodes with poor English subtitles. Good picture quality though.

Siren Entertainment still have the rights to the 80's series over here. As for the new series Sony are going to release the new series DVDs in or about July....no details on what language and other settings the DVDs will have yet -_-
