I totally agree! I think Zoran is obnoxious whinger. Uran was a bit of a brat at worst, but overall a lot cuter and braver. Not so much "attitude".
Maybe I just don't like Zoran's new accent (or her ridiculous clothes! What is that? Half a skirt over white leggings? Image)

End rant. :P (sorry Astro Forever! ;)

Hahaha! Well I agree that she was cuter. But you know what? I don't even feel the same attachment to the 2003 Astro either, so maybe that's why I don't mind Zoran. TENMA RULES!!!! :wahah:

And by the way, the French dub is GREAT! :P So no accent problem here! :D

Actually this all brings up another question but maybe it deserves its own topic.

In 'Astroboy's first love' (the last episode of the 80's series), Astro makes a comment to the girl robot (can't remember her name) that essentially has his same design.  Namely, he is surprised she can feel lonely because only very advanced robots (if any except for Astro) can experience this emotion.  The thought in my mind was if Uran or his parents can feel the same emotions he can?

Actually, this was a very early episode set before he got his family. :)
The robot girl was Nikki.

I think it is a good thing Uran can't fly. She is enough trouble on the ground!
Zoron, on the other hand (2003 series) is, for the most part, a whiny little wuse who uses a fraction of her power where Uran would stretch hers to it's limits.
I think Zoron is an insult to Uran (one of my childhood heroes)

Anyone else feel this way? [/b][/quote]
In the Japanese sequence, this was the 52nd and final episode of the series. However, the English-dubbed version placed it earlier (and cut Tezuka's introductory scene).

This thread has the episode ordered by the Japanese sequence: Astroboy on TV Tome, The episode list :)

Poor Uran, her English name's changed too much over the years, all because her Japanese name sounds like..., you know. First it was Astro Girl back in the 60's, then Uran, but pronounced "Yourain" 80's, then finally Zoran. <_<

I prefer to call her what they've allways called her in Japan: Uran(pronounced Ooran) or Uran-Chan(Ooran-Chan) I hope Zoran doesn't stick.

Isn't the Japanese version short for Uranium? And of course Atom's brother was Cobalt, another element sticking with the theme of atoms. :D

Dr. O'shay never told Astro about Zoran's special ability, having the ability of talking to animals, and able to know how their feeling, until near the end. :P

That's another thing that bugs me. The ability to talk to animals! WTF? Has Dr O'Shay somehow invented an animal translator? Why can't their whole society understand animal talk now?

I'm not as bitter as I sound. :D

That doesn't bug me. :P
It seemed okay to me that Dr.O'shay created a robot with the ability to talk to animals other than just giving her 50,000 horsepower. :D

Thank you, you're too kind.

Or understand plants, like Astro did with the tree! :P

Well I am bitter... That 2003 series had all the ingredients to be the greatest cartoon series ever, if only they had stuck just a little bit closer to the manga/previous series. IMO, of course. ;)

Of course, there are a few episodes that are remakes of earlier stories. But even when the plot is new, the series does use elements from more than a few manga and 1960s episodes.

For instance, the Invisible Ghost/3D TV story contributed to the ep with Uranium & Higeoyaji trying to find a ghost :D (sorry, too busy to look up the title). :P

But here is Uranium's page (Astroboy.jp (not 2003))

I fixed the link. I forgot what I had to do to get the correct URL, but it was a pain to get URLs for all the characters.

:o Why does Cobalt's page come up? Try this one:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...hl%3Den%26lr%3D :o Grrr! Well, just click her picture.

Thank you for the link! :) I've seen the episode in which Zoran and Higeoyaji try to find the ghost. IIRC, I think she asks O'Shay for the ability to fly and spit out fire in this one!

I don't mind the new stories - I mean it would be strange to just re-do what has already been done. And Tenma's new role is my favorite addition, as I often said before. :D But something is lacking in the 2003 series. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but Astro himself seems a bit empty to me. I don't really enjoy some "cute" stories (ex: the Fairy Tale one, or the one in which the prince thinks he can fly), many episodes aren't dramatic enough to my taste, and I miss watching Astro in an "everyday life". For example, I miss the school/classmates scenes from the 1980 series. I thought it made him more human.

The kids need a mama & papa. Ochanomizu is too busy to give them the attention they need, & besides, Atom himself said it in Black Lux/Looks & Capetown Lullabye, something about a mother's warm embrace. :P
