Oh BTW, there are also more special closing credits than what we saw on Madman's.

Wow, they really worked hard, those guys of Manga Entertainment!
It looks like they put back every missing bits when it was possible (i.e. when there were no voices). Sometimes the original soundtrack is back too! :wahah: And I'm making a few discoveries in the dialogs as well (look at my new signature!
). If it wasn't for the missing first two episodes, it would really be the closest thing to the original Japanese version!

I don't want to say more unless there are specific questions, because I wouldn't want to spoil anything for those who want to buy it!

You know, I really wish Manga attempted to restore episode 1 and 2. As it was mentioned before, it seems like the first two were dubbed properly, but were later decided to be combined.

Me too. About the audio record of those sessions, I want to know why, what, who, where, when...

Just been messing around with this set. I can't express my frustration with lack of the original episode 1&2 because otherwise this is SO GOOD! I might be out of my mind but I think it actually might look a little cleaner than the madman version, but most importantly, hearing these episodes in their original language is great--I'm really surpised how much work went into this given its bottom dollar cost.
Just rewatched Atlas Forever for the first time in the original language; pretty stunning!

For those of you who find yourself in a position of already having the madman set, but wanting to also pick up the manga set (I actually think it is worth it now...), I found you can repackage the madman dvd's in double slimline dvd cases (easily available at staples here in the US), such that you only end up with 6 dvd cases inside the madman tin.
Why do this? You actually clear up enough room that you can fit the manga set (sleeve and all) right into the tin along with your madman set.
Well there are probably only a few nuts who care about this, but having all the astro 80's episodes in a shiny red tin is pretty cool instead of having to refer back and forth to two seperate sets.

I don't think you are out of your mind. I think there might be a little difference in the colors (it seems very slightly more pale than Madman's to me, but I can't even say I prefer one over the other! And it's the opposite on my computer, go figure!
Something in the animation seems a little better to me (I can't describe it better), but that may be because of the PAL to NTSC conversion.
Also the voices are always right on even though they must have had to make a lot of adjustments since this final version is neither like the original English version, nor the Japanese version.

Indeed! It's a little more moving in my opinion.

I like the packaging and the menu screen a lot better in the Manga Entertainment version, but the only annoyong thing is that they put the titles inside the covers, with the disks on top of them... It's annoying to have to remove a disk to know what is on it. But it's cool that the whole box is barely bigger than a VHS cassette!
I think I'll put my Madman set near my computer, and the other one near the TV, so I won't have to constantly move the disks from one place to the other anymore.

There's one exception to this, and I can't even remember specifically, I think it's the episode where Bruton completely decapitates (or is it just slice in half) one of the robots, his voice clip is said 3 seconds early.
By the way, can you "post" the turtle scene? I'm curious :wahah: (If you want, post it in a regular link if it's not appropriate)

Oh yes, you are right, I had forgotten about this one. But even on Madman's version, in English, I think when he's broken on the beach, at one point his lips are moving but there is absolutely nothing said. I think there is also a problem in the Photar/Epsilon scene as well.

Hopefully, no Astroboy scene is inappropriate on an Astroboy forum...

Manga put it back in the episode. It's in Lilly on Peligro Island, right after Astro says "I'll travel with the current" the first night he's searching for the island. He hits a turtle, which starts rotating on itself, and that's where the gag happens.
Edit: Done.
