As you can tell, I'm a Unico fan. Unico in the Island of Magic was the first anime, first movie, and first thing I had ever watched, and it's remained my favorite movie all these years. It led to me becoming an anime fan, Astro Boy fan, and a fan of Tezuka's works in general.

I believe Astro Boy is weak here because of Tezuka's presence here being weak in the first place. Much of his work remains untranslated, thankfully much of it has been fansubbed, and I have never been lucky enough to actually find it on television. I saw Unico on VHS from the library as a child, and everything else I have downloaded from the internet. Toonami once mentioned the lack of love for Astro Boy in the States when they reviewed Omega Factor, but besides that I have never seen anything Tezuka related on television, and very, very little on store shelves. Considering Tezuka's role in anime, it's sadly ironic.![]()
