Well, at least someone else here has. :w00t: It's one of my favorite OVAs, and I've actually started to make a fan & reference site for it.

Korean animated rip-off of Astro Boy:

Note: In the late 70's and 80, the Koreans has been notorious for ripping off many Japanese animated properties. The most infamous example is the Robot TaeKwon V, a national beloved giant robot show "influenced" from Mazinger Z.

Yes, but it might be a dull world if nobody ever ripped-off anybody else's ideas. If Johnston McCulley never ripped off Baroness Emmuska Orczy, we would not have Zorro; if no Zorro, would there be a Batman, etc?

I don't mind if someone is taking a concept or ideas from others and then putting his own spin that is just enough to make it unique but for someone to make direct xerox copies is plain wrong in my book. While Osamu Tesuka was perhaps inspired by Mickey Mouse on creating the look of Astro Boy, he put his own ideas for the story that is original. Disney on the other hand stole specific scenes and moments from Osamu's Kimba the White Lion for the Lion King. If you compare both, some parts are exactly identical to the tee.

I believe I read somewhere that Tezuka WAS pretty inspired by Mickey Mouse when designing Astro Boy

Here is a funny parody of Astro Boy in the episode "Hero Boy" from the cartoon show Freakazoid:

I couldn't help but laugh at the weird afro and his baby behavior. Some may find it insulting. What do you think?
