Why can't different ethnicities get along? Because in every group of people, whether they all share a religion, race, ideal etc. They will always be a percentage of people who don't want to get along with others. In Astro's world there are people who hate robots and won't fathom the idea of getting on with them, some of those people have their reasons and some don't. Same goes in the real world, some people hate people different to them and don't want to get along with them, some people have their reasons and some don't.
Anyways Astro is the embodiment of someone who just wants people to change so everyone can get along, but not everyone shares his ideals and those are the people he gets into confrontations with.
I guess that whole rant was completly pointless and everybody already knew all that but there you go.
karl0s is right; discrimination is what Tezuka wanted to express in Atom's stories; true, there might have been other themes that were important, but that was the main one.
I think I would rather leave Atom as he is, with a live-action series, 3 animated series made by Tezuka, & the other series & movies made by Tezuka's company + PLUTO, than to hope that somebody will actually go against the trend & make a new movie that actually does justice to Atom's legacy. Even if I never see the the movies or the live-action series (other than ZZZ), at least I know that they exist.
What made Tetsuwan Atom was Tezuka's heart and inspiration; these were absent from the '09 movie, though it may have had some merits of its own, it was not the master's work. Many of the people who cut their teeth working for T have moved on to become independent artists themselves; how many remain who actually
know T's heart? I think Urasawa got PLUTO right, though he heavily embellished the lives of the other 6 robots and such; he brought in plot elements from all over the Tetsuwan Atom corpus. As I read P, I was taking notes of all those elements; P resonated for me, it not only told the story of
THE GREATEST ROBOT, but also of many others as well. The '09 lacked the heart that P had in abundance. I know many saw the '09 1st, & for them, it
is Astroboy, but those who witnessed the dedication of the 2nd Temple, likewise thought highly of it. Yet, the elders, who remembered the 1st Temple were disappointed with the 2nd (its in the Bible, trust me on this).
