I made it. :3 I used an image from one of the later volumes of the Astro Boy manga.

(I've been on a bad avatar making kick lately...maybe I'll have to post them, lawls.)

"Fauna" wrote:Yeah, but Dragonball was an all-around terrible movie that strayed too far away from its source material and what made the show likeable, so maybe it's good those kids stayed away. (Yamcha was a Yankii, Chichi a cheerleader, Goku a white, 18-year-old Edward Cullen lookalike?) I only ever saw one trailer on TV and the movie was in theatres for one week.

At least Astro Boy had five weeks here, but a really long run in the cheap theatre.

I'm sort of not expecting Imagi to get up and run like they used to, since they've got their last cards on the Gatchaman movie (does anybody outside Asia actually give a crap about Gatchaman these days?) and they just took down the teaser site for T28. Unless they took it down to fix the character designs.

I want a Tetsujin 28 movie, and an Astro Boy sequel with Uran and Skunk! I'm probably only in for T28 because I want to see the Murasame Brothers and Dr. Shutain Franken again, though...

I'm not talking about the movie. I'm talking abot the TV show character design.

 They have no Uran panty shots and not one fatted calf. Not even a soft plush Denkou in a one piece footy PJ....
   :ninja:

"karl0s" wrote:Astro is a representation of someone just wanting everyone to get along. His idea of robots and humans getting along mirrors real society, why can't different religions get along? Why can't different ethnicities get along? Because in every group of people, whether they all share a religion, race, ideal etc. They will always be a percentage of people who don't want to get along with others. In Astro's world there are people who hate robots and won't fathom the idea of getting on with them, some of those people have their reasons and some don't. Same goes in the real world, some people hate people different to them and don't want to get along with them, some people have their reasons and some don't.

Anyways Astro is the embodiment of someone who just wants people to change so everyone can get along, but not everyone shares his ideals and those are the people he gets into confrontations with.

I guess that whole rant was completly pointless and everybody already knew all that but there you go.

karl0s is right; discrimination is what Tezuka wanted to express in Atom's stories; true, there might have been other themes that were important, but that was the main one.

I think I would rather leave Atom as he is, with a live-action series, 3 animated series made by Tezuka, & the other series & movies made by Tezuka's company + PLUTO, than to hope that somebody will actually go against the trend & make a new movie that actually does justice to Atom's legacy. Even if I never see the the movies or the live-action series (other than ZZZ), at least I know that they exist.

What made Tetsuwan Atom was Tezuka's heart and inspiration; these were absent from the '09 movie, though it may have had some merits of its own, it was not the master's work. Many of the people who cut their teeth working for T have moved on to become independent artists themselves; how many remain who actually know T's heart? I think Urasawa got PLUTO right, though he heavily embellished the lives of the other 6 robots and such; he brought in plot elements from all over the Tetsuwan Atom corpus. As I read P, I was taking notes of all those elements; P resonated for me, it not only told the story of THE GREATEST ROBOT, but also of many others as well. The '09 lacked the heart that P had in abundance. I know many saw the '09 1st, & for them, it is Astroboy, but those who witnessed the dedication of the 2nd Temple, likewise thought highly of it. Yet, the elders, who remembered the 1st Temple were disappointed with the 2nd (its in the Bible, trust me on this). :tenma:

THAT"S RIGHT! I almost forgot about that one. Tezuka called it his "second gerneration Goofball Astro Boy picture". I flew out of my seat when I saw that pic. LOL! But I like the caption you put on there. LOL!
You're not a joke, you fit right in!

But to remember Astro is ownd by Tezuka productions so no clue if they'd do anything. As for Gotchaman, I couldn't care less on it, in fact I haven't really liked any other films by them. Tetsujom 28 looked interesting but it didn't have that spark for me

The original anime for Tetsujin 28 is actually pretty good, and it's based on Tezuka's style. The Imagi trailer bothered me because the brown-haired kid is actually the boy on this page, and the bearded megalomaniac villain was one of the show's tragic villains Dr. Franken, who wasn't all that bad a guy. I was sort of hoping they would redesign everyone, but now it's over...

Or maybe I'm just depressed because I didn't get to see the designs for the Murasame Brothers, the last three dudes on that page.

My idea for movie two?

Astro vrs. the Gulf Oil Spill. A 90 minute animated tirade where Astro pulls up a soap box after kicking butt and tying that leak into an oil stopping vasectamy and just goes off on the whole human race...

I really should see that Dragon ball film to see how bad it is, Andy keeps going on about it XD

The Dragon Ball movie is *insert profanity here*. I only laughed at it because of the horror it made me witness. Worst dollar I've ever spent renting a movie.

You know what? I'm HAPPY that Imagi is shutdown. Why?
Because EVERYTHING THEY TOUCH DIES.

I mean, look at the Ninja Turtles movie! That was horrible. :(

The only thing about Astro Boy that I liked that came from that horrible studio was the concept art. MAN, whoever did those should have done the comics. Same to the guy who did the concept art for Gotchaman (which I was kinda almost interested in...).

Imagi, I dance on your grave. *dancey-dancey*

...I've never heard of Tetsujin 28, hehehe....sorry. T_T *is a failure*

All you need to know is that it was a kid's comic that came out in the late fifties, and was inspired by Astro Boy and Frankenstein. All the cool villains die and funny-looking robots fight a fat robot.

Imagi made a trailer and some concept art for it, calling it T28, but it's cancelled now. Maybe it was a good thing, seeing what happened in the trailer...the main character (who's only 10) looked like a Final Fantasy character, and the one villain who was the most sympathetic was now a psychopath.
