It could have been, at least... and it would have make an awful way to end the series! The opening credits and all the music in that anime had to be among the best.

No, it was Jayce and the wheeled warriors. By the way, it was the ring that could save the day. The medallion was for another purpose. Funnily, as a child, I used to mix the bad guys boss with Atlas form the 80s
