Astro has a magnetic effect, I was sitting in peace park in Hiroshima in 97 and just started sketching Astro during a break on the grass and suddenly I had a flock of school kids all over me wanting drawings of Astro playing baseball, kicking a soccer ball, flying...I'll never forget that.

:wahah: Wow!, I had no idea you were an artist. You must have been honored with all those kids asking for your pics. I've always wanted a pic of Astro playing baseball too. It's my favorite sport. Could you show us some of your Astro pics.

I think it's cool you have an Astro plush on your bunk. I have 3 Astros, 2 Urans and a Princess Knight always on display in my bedroom.

I'll bet you'll miss Japan when you leave. ;)

Dannavy85 is a known fan artist here. With a quick search I found back a part of his/her work:

I missed the best ones though, difficult to dig among the hundreds of discussions...

I will miss it, Though I won't miss the Navy taking so much time away from family and drawing.

I guess Tezuka rubbed off on everyone. he wasn't athletically inclined as a youth, bullies used to slam kickballs off his head, but he was gifted. He drew so much in class it got him sent to the principal numerous times because the kids would stop to watch. He had Western thinking parents a very supportive grandmother and just plain luck not to be killed all through the war years.

He's the reason Anime is so heavy in heroic virtues, all his life experiances are woven into those thousands of manga pages. He wasn't as dynamic as Stan Lee, he's not an Alex Ross, he didn't have a million dollar home like Todd McFarlane, so what if he couldn't draw ellaberate background scenes like Wendy and Rich Pinni. When is the last time you ever saw these guys draw for nothing or spend all day talking to fans until they had to be forcefully removed for missing their next appointment? Tezuka could be walking down a street and get pulled over by a gang of kids asking for drawings and he did it. Now there's a real artist for you. Stan Lee may have made Spider Man but Osamu Tezuka made history, not bad for a once picked on school kid.

Thanks for the links fafner, I remember those. I'd forgotten that they were dannavy85's work.

And thank you dannavy85 for that summary of Tezuka's life. I thought he must have been bullied when he was a kid. So many of his cartoon characters are bullied, especially Astro. I feel Tezuka and I are kindred spirits, for I too was picked on when I was a kid, and I'm an artist too, though on the music side of art. When I read or watch a seen in which Astro is being abused, I remember those experiences myself and can really relate to Astro. But then Astro can fight back and get some justice. He makes me feel good.

The question is, who wouldn't want to adopt him? The problem however, a point may arise where I may adopt 2,000 characters too many. I'll just regard it as an impossibility... :whistling:

I agree. I think it's the only character I'd want to adopt though. A child robot, but capable of the maturity of an adult, that you can fully trust? :astro:
