ASTRO BOY AND FRIENDS!

Postby ASTROBUDDY » 14 years ago

I am really glad that now it is so easy to post pictures because now I can share some of my collection! I thought I would start it off slow with just these two pictures of "Astro Boy and Friends!"

In the first picture, Astro Boy is commiserating with a friend about how poorly their respective movies did in the U.S.

In the second photo, Atom and his siblings just want to say hi to everyone at the Astro Boy-Online forums.

Hello, everybody! I took these pictures some years ago with a then new camera I had been given as a present. (A camera with film; this being before the onslaught of digital products, mind you.)

In photo number one, at center stage is a plastic model of Atom I put together and painted. Behind that is the laserdisc cover of Astro Boy Vol. #1 from the Right Stuf. As you can see the artist is illustrating Astro Boy's battle with Zog from the first episode fo the 1960s Astro Boy series. (The items along side of Astro Boy are other characters whose adventures I follow.

Photo# 2 features a framed postcard using art from a cel from the 1960s Astro Boy series also depicting the battle between Zog and our hero. The item in the middle is a music sphere! Inside Atom flys over his home town while Dr. Elefan, Mr. Pompous and Astro Girl cheer him on from below. The whole scene spins around to the "Astro Boy March" after its wound. Along are also some other objets d'art I also find interesting, therefore have joined my collection!

I  :astro: :)

I am adding this picture to show the very rare instance of Japanese merchandising of one of the series characters other than Atom; the figurine of boy Atlas from the 1980s Astro Boy series. Here my favorite super hero team, the Justice Society of America come by to visit Astro and his siblings. And they all posed for a "portrait shot" which I took using my then new camera. (see above post) Unfortunately I have not been able to locate any figurines for the Adult Atlas or Ti-tan(ium). If they were made, as far as I know they have not reached the U.S.A.

Do you mean the JUSTICE LEAGUE? I doubt any figure of Titan would be imported to the USA since he is virtually unknown outside Japan.

No, I mean the Justice Society! A precursor to the Justice League! The JSA were the original super team created in the 1940s and revived in the 1960s after not having seen publication in some twelve years. Starting in the sixties the two teams saw adventures together as published by DC Comics. (Of course being a Green Lantern fan, both the original and the more prevalent version are in evidence and yea that version is a member of the JLA.)

Yes I agree with you about Ti-tan(ium). I would go as far to say merchandise featuring him is very rare indeed, if not non-existant.

I would like to share a picture of one of my most prized Astro Boy memorablia. A copy of Tetsuwan Atomu Club magazine from Nov. 1964 which features the original Astro Boy manga episode, "The Time Machine". In this magazine is an original, not a reprint Astro Boy manga episode.
Unfortunately due to the age of the magazine I can only post the front and back covers. The front cover features the rabbit character from W3 (Amazing 3). The back cover features an ad for Atom and Uran slippers.
I hope you enjoy!
