Somehow I just don't see Astro Boy being revived sometime soon, and even then not in its original form. It is a shame that Tezuka passed away before the '03 series was made and the producers did not change it so much, it was aired on some great childrens' channels so it actually had quite a bit of potential. It ended up as just another cartoon that children might watch, but forget and not remember.
That's the downfall with Astroboy and many of Tezuka's properties. They don't exploit them as much as they deserve.
Get Saban to back it , redub Astro Boy 2003 or continue 2009's continuity , and put it on Nick. If not a redub, perhaps a CG series that continues 2009's story but in essence is Astro Boy kinda like Godzilla: TAS. if they did a redub or re-release ,maybe it would do better now and release those films?
Frankly I got a vinegar taste from the 2003 version of the dub, but I don't mind it now as much. It just sucks they didn't have the chops to not try to be badass when the footage clearly contradicted it and when the story was clearly done in their favor. If it was up to me, it would have gotten top promotion in the states and made it toy-oriented like Power Rangers, having several versions of Astro, the main cast...The robots would have made great diecast toys and or Gundam-like model kits. The 2003 manga adaptation would have been licensed to Tokyopop or VIZ, probably put into issues L to R.
Furthermore ,the toys would have been released in conjunction with it according to the story arcs like PR and even expand into the young girl market with Uran themed shirts, dresses , dolls of the prominent female characters. And if it was really successful, the films would have been brought here theatrically en masse, not in a few theatres or an all original film would have been made done by Tezuka Pro to launch a second series to adapt the unused manga stories and characters, a re-release of the 1960 anime , 80's series and the manga....
In short , whoever handled Astro Boy at the time was pretty shitfaced , stoned dumb because they neglected these opportunities of a potential hit. There's the nostalgia from the older fans who had children themselves like me which would have gotten into the series had it been promoted and not slaughtered and then you know the whole anime boom.
