Now that I think about it, the 1980s' version of Electro/Light Ray Robot had a fair amount of humor; not as much as either R45 or Gadem, but it was funny until the ending tragedy. :D

Yeah, this episode has a couple of funny scenes to offer, e.g. Skunk ordering Light Ray to place a time bomb near Astro's house, and Light Ray replying: "Nice sound, I don't want to give it away." :D

 The next one doesn't have a happy ending either:

Robio & Robiette

Sad endings were the whole point of the Astroboy stories. In this case, the robots, though regarded as their creators' children, were mere pawns in their attempts to out do each other.

BTW, thanks for the images, Strange Wings!

You're welcome! :)

I agree, that's perhaps one of the reasons the Astroboy series has such an emotional impact on people like us - same goes for the Jetter Mars series, which also has a couple of episodes with heavy endings.
These series point the finger on what's going on today in the world without being preachy, but rather telling it alike an allegory.
Tezuka truly was an advertent man; perhaps he needed the art forms of manga & anime to digest what he experienced all through his life.

Can anyone name all the boys in this image? I only need the names for the 3 on the far right. Also, if you can tell me which episode mentions their names. :p
