this movie is American and I noticed he is clothed more often...well at least 100% of the time in the movie trailor.
Why American's do this?
because americans like to censor things that seem to be inappropriate or too showy. so with this classic icon astro boy, they had ALOT of controversy over this fact and alot of people (who are jerks that say this) call it "child porn" which is not. so thus, they made him put on clothes. but there are some scenes in this film where he is in his classic look. so don't worry fans!^^ there is hope! also, america like to cut out things in oversea films like astro boy or naruto or any other anime or films, that are from outside the country, are, usually cut out parts because, its too, gory, sexual, or some other stupid reason. so for an example lets take the 1960's astro boy. when it was coming into the usa for the first time they needed to look at it for a bit. now japanses audiences are treated with more adult like atmosphere story lines. and that dose include children. so with america were more into happily ever after stories. so getting back to my point, sometimes NBC enterprises cut so much out from the films the story was super choppy thus they had to go back to mushi productions (the animation studio in japan) and make more animation to replace the one that were pulled out for various reasons...and thats it all in a nutshell and its still like that today! so yeah we amereicans like happy fairy-tailed endings. so i really never got hooked on that because i watch anime since i was a little girl. now don't get me wrong i LOVE disney and marvle and DC there EPIC but i was tired of this happily ever after stuff, and thats another reason that i love anime alot more than american films. and that i can identify with an anime (like astro boy) more than cinderella or snowwhite. becuse i can emotional be connected with the character and know their pain and happiness. and the reason that i kno all of this is because i'm studding to become an animator/comic artist like tezuka osamu-san!^^

Yeah, America gets so uppidty over nudity that it doesn't really surprise me at all. People call "child porn" or an "attempt to corrupt children" on just about everything. Though it's been said that he'll have his classic look at the beginning and during the last fight scene of the movie. (which I kinda figured they'd do anyway) This doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I recall this happening a lot in the 80s anime.
On another note, I'm impressed with the movie website and it's new timeline section. Gives me more hope that the people putting this together know what they're doing. I never saw it, but I'm pretty sure Dragonball: Evolution's website didn't care about the title's history this well

wow i wish u luck with the comic/animator plans
americans are weird that way
possibly one of the worst countries, in regards to violence and what not, yet they are so worried about lil details like astro boy's pants
i cant believe they thought of him as child porn!
honestly the very early versions of Astro are very weird, with the charging methods and what not
but astro has come a long way and makes a wonderful cartoon

all america could do was dub it how it wanted and cut out wat they thought inappropriate!

Original Astroboy
In Original Astroboy comic, Astroboy sometimes lost his arms, legs, head, and repaired. But in TV series such a situation is rare. And 60 TV series, in US, some episode not on-aired becourse of "cruel". Of course the newest movie adjusted to US standard. But early episode of original comic, Astroboy wear clothing and went to school. In late episode of 60 TV series, Astroboy's main action was changed to "To battle with bad robot". And he did not wear ordinary clothing. He act in shorts and boots, now we know as Astroboy's Style.
I do not think that child porn has much if anything to do with the new film depicting Atom fully clothed most of the time. Rather, I suspect that this may be to make him more appealing to boys, who may think his classic appearance is a bit too cute for them. Recall that according to T@W's Atom page, Tezuka made Atom androgynous (with both masculine & feminine characteristics).

He wore shorts in his previous incarnations, but in both this film, & Pluto, he wears long pants. The American version of the 2003 tried to make him tough, desipte his cuteness; it chopped out clips that depicted his sweetness and cuteness.
But the attempt to make a family-oriented show into a Saturday morning Kids' (Boys') show failed. Boys do not relate to boy characters; they want to be men!
