If I may add my views...

1. He doesn't breathe. He often goes underwater for long periods of time, and he's been in space a lot too.

2. He does feel pain I think. In Crystal Of The Desert he was attacked by one of Atlas's guards who had some kind of spinning energy field for hands. Astro got hit by them:

3. He can eat but he doesn't need to.

I will not go so far as to completely disagree, but will say that breathing is not necessary, but is to make him appear more human-like. While I cannot point to any one piece of supporting evidence (unless it would be him sighing in relief), I think because the rotund woman on the ship (ep 1/2 dub/Sub), mistook him for a human boy, until he began eating. Likewise, "Lilly on Peligro Island" quite a few people mistook him for a human.

Metal covered by plastic. Actually, there was one episode (80s) in which he was disguised as a human (Astro's first love), he even had finger nails. So, that being the case, I would say that anyone who looked close enough, could see that he was obviously a robot. However, if they expected a human boy, they might believe that to be the case. :o

I always thought he had realistic looking skin, with only his joints and helmet showing that he was in fact a robot:

If Dr. Elefun went to all the trouble to give him human-like skin, hair, and finger nails (in Astro's first love), and yet, he had no breath, he would hardly pass for human.

By willing suspension of disbelief. :D

In The Human-Faced Rock, he takes a sulfur spring bath with Daddy Walrus and gets worried that the sulfur is no good for his circuits. Yet he's been in the ocean plenty of times without worrying about the salt water.

guys its a little off topic again but id like to share it with you. iam searching on how to retrieve my old email account. as iam browsing to different search result this is what i found.

I would advise against the method you posted. For a start, it would more than likely breach Yahoo's terms of agreement. Secondly, it's telling you to post your own password to an e-mail address you know nothing about. How do you know this isn't the e-mail address of a hacker, just waiting for suckers to fall for this trick?

Here is the crucial distinction between the two: The one was an act of bonding with D W, that might have been accomplished just as well by Atom sitting on the floor as in the water. The other was Atom fighting evil. Thus, to stay dry was in the one, a case of avoiding unnecessary exposure to hostle environments, while the other was going into the hostile environment for the purpose of "saving the day", to borrow a phrase from LouBear's Power Puff Girls.
