Babelfished:
--------------
Theme of uranium (iron arm atom (new))
Song: ATOMS
However it is tomboyish, the innocent smiling face
Uranium uranium
everyone calling, the ‚é
It is lovely from the flower more refreshing than the wind
If uranium you are, it is pleasant with anytime
We love the atom brother, song the favorite favorite dream
The angel would like to see uranium everyone calls, is

The heart which but power it has and
Uranium uranium everyone loving, the ‚é
The day way we would like to see the bright smiling face
If uranium you are, it is pleasant with anytime
Imitating the atom brother, we love venture
The soldier would like to see uranium everyone waits, is

We love the atom brother, the sky the favorite the favorite star
The angel would like to see uranium everyone calls, is
--------------

Ah, the joys of dodgy web translation! I might have a go at translating it properly when my Japanese is up to scratch. Give me a couple of years.

Hmm, after listening to the song, I think it says "Uranu-chan" rather than "Uran Uran", or "Uranu Uranu". I am certain it does not say the latter one . ;)

I haven't listened closely to the lyrics, but her name in the original Japanese was Uranium.

I've already converted my VHS tapes to DivX to save the material from deterioration, but it's still not a patch on DVD.

PHWOAR!! Dude.. I got a (crappy) Video-in VC for my PC SPECIFICALLY so I can back up my older VHS to VCD/SVCD so as not to loose them!

I figure that since VHS is the same 'picture' as VCD (or is it SVCD? I forget now) there was no real need to bother with a DVD burner, as all DVD players accept VCD/SVCD now (and also price for equipment was a major factor) so jumping from VHS resolution to DVD resolution would actually DECREASE the picture quality.
In subjective order of quality...

DVD, AVI, live TV signal, SVHS, VHS, SVCD, VCD.

DVD is only Mpeg2, but at a good resolution and a bitrate of up to 9000 so it kicks ass. AVI covers a variety of formats including DivX (Mpeg4), but can handle slighty higher resolutions than DVD at a bitrate of 6000. I find that you can get a VHS equivalent at around half resolution with a bitrate of 1500. The benefits of DVD over AVI are multiple streams, subtitles, menus, that kind of stuff. Live TV signal is good stuff and noticeably better to record off than even a 6-head VHS recording. SVHS is basically a high resolution VHS so you get better quality but uses up more tape. VHS will go the same way as audio cassette tapes in the future now that DVD recorders are available. SVCD is the same Mpeg2 technology as DVD, but at a lower resolution and lower bitrate. IMO it's too poor quality for preserving stuff, AVI gets better quality using less space. VCD is even worse, lower resolution and only Mpeg1.

I hope that ramble made sense and that I got my facts right!

IMO, a high quality DivX/XviD compression is the best for backing up VHS. It's not as compatible as S/VCD, but can be converted to it if you want to watch on a DVD player. It's definately higher quality.

ok, Well the first episode Finally aired on ABC Kids This evening.

Thought it was fantastic. I loved it. I can not understand why people bagged it so much. The animation was top nitch, the characters introduced were cemented really well, the pace was very steady and upbeat all the way thru, the resolution was spot on.. and all this happening while a huge bad robot thing was terrorizing teh city!

It is MASSIVELY different to teh 80's series tat I have known and loved since it was first aired. Perhaps many people are p-0-ed because of this. To me tho it was sooo different that I cant compare the two series.

It the first episode is any indication of what is to come, then I am going to LOVE this new incarnation of astroboy.

FULL MARKS!! 10/10

Observations..

How cool is it that they got that voice actor to do Atom!? She is one of my favorite voice actors and always does a grat job. Its amazing how changing astros voice like that seems to have actually changed his whole personality. The inflection and tone of the voice of this new astro makes him seem somehow older, cheekier, stronger, than the earlier versions. Its wonderful that after 40 years astro is finally allowed to 'grow up' just a bit, anyway.

I have to now go and watch the FanSub of this episode that I downloaded from Anapan (thanx dude! J00 R0X0r!! ;) to compare. I don't expect there would be a great deal of difference but I have to compare anyway.

I will be checking for editing as i watch too, just to see if indeed™ the version Aunty is showing is the same 'edited for sponsor time' versions being shown on the commercial channels.
three and a half years.. for what?
