Ah, well I'm happy you know this then. ;) I just wouldn't want anyone to think it's normal not to pay for things, that's just not the way this world works. Also in some cases, mainly with manga scans in my case, I think posting this stuff online for free is offensive to some of the people who payed for the stuff with their hard-earned cash.

It is a little offensive, I spent about $100 on all eight books (which is one of the reasons that I'm almost broke) and others just went to a website that I didn't even know about until after I bought the books. It is quite frustrating, but I know a few members who read the scans and still bought the books. For them, the scans were a preview of the manga and they decided to get themselves some copies.

Sometimes owning the actual book is better than reading scanlations anyway. You get to feel the pages between the fingers, and often when you get a new book and open it up, you get that nice "new book smell". It's all quite sensational.

That and also the dialogue in the scans are different than in the book.

Here's the thing: IF we could go to our local library and read any/all of Tezuka's works, we wouldn't be paying for them (we also couldn't KEEP them permanently).

So IF there were a way to read the manga online -- but NOT copy/save it for personal use - what is the difference and what is the harm? I WANT permanent copies of all this, and yes, it can take YEARS to build your own library. That seems fine to me. But to be barred from reading manga or watching anime (that was originally broadcast over the airwaves for FREE to people) -- is something I DON'T feel is fair.

I do feel that people who take the trouble to set up websites upon which to view manga/anime deserve to be compensated for their effort - either through advertising or a fee charged to the customer. Hulu now want's $9 month to watch 1980's Astro Boy PLUS they have commercials. I don't feel that's worth it. But $1.00 per view I might consider.

Somewhere between exploiting the people who create manga/anime/movies and those who make them available to us via Internet . . . and charging unreasonable fees/over regulation of copyright is a balance we need to achieve.

It's a bit unfair to compare free streaming or TV to downloading. Companies do the former two because they get a profit from it, with the ads. They wouldn't do it if it didn't help them. Publishers are also aware of libraries and their legality and work around that knowledge.

Crunchyroll started as a website offering many videos without permission, but now works directly with companies and is helping them get their shows known and make money out of them. It is cool for the owner to get money out of this, as long as part of the money also goes to the original companies who are so nice to venture into free streaming in the first place.

It would just as well be nice to have free trials for every Apple games. When there isn't, then free be it to someone to crack it illegally and see for themselves if they want to buy it, but we shouldn't help the ones who will only crack it in order not to pay a penny in the process. The people who really want to will crack it on their own, they know how to use Google. We shouldn't be helping something that can so easily be used for the wrong reasons on public forums.

To keep it short: let's not post illegal things, alright? This is usually common sense, after all.

All I can say is that the world ain't just black and white. There's the grey parts in-between, but the trouble is where do you put the free manga scans or the free iPhone apps.

Some companies are offering licensed manga digitally, often as books for rent. Except when you pay for it, you're usually expected to read the entire thing in a single day and would have to pay again to read it.

Of course that's no different from a library, but it's just a lot more annoying when it comes digitally. The Astro Boy Magazine had a better idea, you got to keep the issues once you bought them.

Please do not post such a link here. While I think it's nice that you want to share it with us, it is illegal and I do not agree with that, especially since the legal way is cheap and available.

I would be happy to know how you liked the game however. :)

Might I also point out that this site also hosts the rom of the SNES game? No different from that. But I guess that doesn't count since it was a Japan-only title, and something several decades old.
