Hm, I'd probably be looking through the actual comics personally, unless you have already done that. Everything else doesn't seem to be much.

Duh, they're huge compilations of older manga that usually aren't mass-reprinted, and they're also limited edition boxsets. OF COURSE they're not going to be cheap.

For the manga books, the pages are the same size as the Dark Horse, the images are larger; DH uses a 4 row & 3 column format, while these are a 3 row 2 column format. Of course there are exceptions in both. The frames are numbered by volumes, though, so counting is simple. Oh, the books are 52 pages each, counting the covers, 12 per year, though I am only assuming that each one represents a month's work. As I understand it, the manga artists were required to draw a certain # of pages for each title per week or month.

In the DH, & I suppose the Japanese originals, the images are cropped on the left & right edges. I remember the scene just before Uran's ROBOTTING match. Several of Tezuka's actors are standing around talking about the coming fight, Among them, Rock, Sabuten (Cactus) Sam, & Ricky, the squirrel boy. But Sapphire is off screen. I simply failed to recognize her by her circular sleeve, but in this, it was obviously her. I will post the frames eventually.

In the larger volumes, the format seems the same as in the DH; more on this later.

Wow, sad to hear that the DH editions crop off the pages... I guess that's another thing to be disappointed about.

I was meaning to ask though... If the units contain the old versions, would one of the units possibly contain the lost Chi-tan and Jungle Devil Boundary chapters?

I think these are mainly the SHONEN manga. I have a list of the contents for UNIT 7, & it has the following dates listed:

  1. 1953
  2. 1967-1969 (I assume this is THE CHRONICLES)
  3. 1972-1973 (OR IS THIS)
  4. 1980-81 (must be the vol 23 stuff)
  5. 1968
  6. 1969
  7. 1970
  8. 1975
  9. 1976
  10. 1976

I actually tried to match the Japanese text on the ad with the text in that 2003 book, but no luck. It does not seem like it will be there, judging from this data:

67 ASTRO BOY Club, 9 Chii-tan (Chitan) 04/1966

The 70's is probably referencing to the Supplement series chapters from the 70's. The other two series never did got that far.

I'll provide these in the meantime,

鉄腕アトム 別巻 = Tetsuwan Atom: Supplement Issues. This title was used in the Complete Works editions and doesn't seem to apply to these units, judging from a glance.

アトム今昔物語 = Chronicles of Tetsuwan Atom. (However it seems to be more literally translated as Tetsuwan Atom: Tales of the Past, it is a bit confusing.)
