The last parameter (st=108) is the number of the post to show. So when you have the post you want to link on a page, just calculate the number using the original one and counting the posts on the current page before the one you want to link

Very likely the first post on the thread. Check this one:

As noted in the post, it is the 1000th one for that thread, which is also indicated by the last part of the URL.

Oh no! I was wrong in believing that post without verifying it for myself. The very first post on a thread is number zero. Thus, that was the 1001st post on that thread.

Ok, thanks to both of you, I get it now. I can just put my mouse over the page number on the main forum page and I see the st= parameter in the link, so from there I can add the number of posts until the post I want to link to in the page. I guess I could also multiply the number of pages by the number of posts in a page and then make the addition, but I'm afraid I'll never remember how many posts there are on a full page!

I found it by noting the address of the page itself, then popping a few numbers in the st parameter, until I reached it. Note that you cannot scroll to previous posts.

In my looking through the first few pages of Caption the picture game, I found one that I originally posted at the very top of a page. However, in the absence of photos no longer on servers, the post had been moved to the middle of the previous page.

Therefore, this method is not without its drawbacks.

That's strange... I'm looking at the caption thread, and there are always 15 post per page. Therefore post 0 is at the top of page 1, post 15 is on page 2, etc. Basically the # of the post at the top of the page is 15 * (# page - 1). It works until the end of that thread... :wacko:

I was wondering how in the world I could click on your link and end up on post #69 (which is correct) while the link showed #68 (?). That's because the link you are showing isn't the same one as the real link behind!

So the magical formula is:

a = number of page
b = number of the post in page number a

15 * (a - 1) + (b - 1)

or if you prefer:

15a + b - 16

In other words, to get the 10th post of page 5, a = 5, b = 10, therefore 15(5) + 10 - 16 = 69.
