This TV movie is an adaptation of the Felix Salten story of the same name and features a similar protagonist to Astroboy. Unfortunately, only the climax of the film is faithful to Salten's book - much of the film is an entirel different story Substitute the word 'angel' for the word 'robot' and you will see the two characters are essentially the same.

Looks like there were animated remakes in 1997 and 2011.

I vaguely remember that! The kid is chasing a butterfly (or whatever) & falls off a cliff. Next thing, he is in the clouds. I guess I should check U-tube!
