Atom's schoolmates Alvin and Theodore

Tamao/Theodore, Atom/Astro, and Kenichi/Ken

Their Nihongo names were Shibugaki and Tamao, but why were their English names Alvin and Theodore? Was it pure coincidence that

of these tree characters, one is named Alvin (far right) and the other theodore? If not a coincidence, then why was the other one's name, Simon, not likewise used for Atom's other schoolmate Kenichi, which became 'Ken' in the English dub? I do not know which of the two on the left is Theodore and which is Simon, but if Theodore is the bespecticalled one, that that is another coincidence.

Alvin and the chipmunks was a pretty good show..but they should have left the names the same.

That crosses my mind occasionally, but yeah it is weird.

Alvin is the red chipmunk, who always wears a hat (Alvin Gordon in Astroboy usually wears a hat).

Theodore is the blue chipmunk, who is the brainy one and always wears glasses (Theodore from Astroboy always wears glasses).

Simon is the green chipmunk, who is a bit dim.

I just found out the chipmunks go way back to 1958.

I don't know if the English dubbers of Astroboy chose Alvin and Theodore deliberately, but Anime dubbing in those days usually didn't use the character's Romanised Japanese names (like Tamao and Kenichi). I figured they went with Theodore so his name would at least match the T on his shirt.

Is the Chipmunks picture there or not? I do not see it with either Opera 7-11 or IE X.xx I hate it when this happens!

no.. The chipmunks picture did'nt show up for me..wow 1958..I watched that show when I was younger in the 80s. I had no clue it was that old.

Alvin is easy, he's wearing red and has a red hat, just like you said, but also his shirt always has a big "A" on it.

You got Teddy and Simon reversed though. :huh: Simon is the tall one with the glasses and the blue shirt who enjoys inventing stuff, and Theodore is the short chubby one with the green shirt who enjoys eating.

So... who can tell me the names of the Chippettes?
