One thing I noticed in the manga is that they often say Astro has 100,000 horsepower, yet Astro has on occasion said that he has a million horse power. Which is right?

I believe that 1,000,000 is the right horsepower for Atomu

He was initially equipped with 100,000; however, when going to fight Pluto (Bruton) he asked Dr. Ochanomizu (Elefun) to give him 1,000,000. The Dr. refused, so he went to his creator, Dr. Tenma (Boynton in the 60s anime), who did boost it to 1,000,000 Hp.
BTW, the family name was dubbed 'Boynton' while the boy's name was dubbed 'Astor', to make the similarity between 'Astroboy' and "Astor Boynton" in the 60s anime.
