I actually remember reading a review/preview in which the creators said they used Astroboy as a base for the character design and borrowed a few ideas or something along those lines

rusty was a red haird boy robot who had astro's hair style and he pretty much was astro except he had red hair and a symbol on his shirt. also he had a BIIIIIG or bot for a partner who was controled by a human

I thought big guy and rusty was a good show, bobby hill was rusty, and yeah it is on the line of astro boy and gigantor teaming up
