Hey i recently purchased of ebay a 3 volume dvd set of 26 episodes, i just wanna know if anyone else has heard of or have bought these....i wanna know if they are the newly made 26 episodes or just 26 of the 80's version. Just for the record i have not recieved these yet and im just worried that it will all be in japanese if they are in japanese then hey thats the risk of ebay...ill find out monday it said on the item description Dialouge:Japan Subtitles:English but i was thinking that cause its a dvd it might have an option to change to english dialouge like a recent Dragon Ball Z dvd i purchased thanks
Yes, I took the plunge a couple of weeks ago and bought the same thing off eBay. (
if you mean this) The 3-disc package of 26 episodes is the new 2003 series. Half of it, anyway. I wasn't entirely sure they were bootlegs but it appears they are (I still plan to buy the legitimate dubs when they're released in Australia).
The packaging is excellent and it looks like the real deal, but when you play the discs there is no menu and a clock appears in the corner  . I guess they were made from the same source as the TV Nihon fansubs on Anapan's ftp site. There is also no episode/track listing on the discs or packaging. There are minor scaling artifacts along some of the lines, but you only notice it when you're looking for it.
The subtitles are English or Chinese and can be turned on or off as per regular DVDs. The subtitle quality is typically poor. All the names are wrong, and they say things like "What are you doing, on Earth!" instead of "What on Earth are you doing!". There are no subtitles for the opening and closing credits. The audio is all Japanese.
I too was worried after not receiving them after a while, because I hadn't even been notified my payment was received. The package arrived a day after I started wondering.
Overall, they're good enough quality to watch and be entertained by, but you could do better (ie. a legit quality release). I guess if you're in a mad rush to see it before it's broadcast or you have a desperate need to see what was edited out

then they're okay. There remains the moral/legal dilemma of buying a bootleg, but that's a whole new thread.
So yes, they're the newly made episodes.
