Astro vs Atlas on CN Today

I watched yesterday's and today's Astro Boy back to back. It was the two-parter featuring Astro Vs. Atlas. The thing I didn't like was the way Astro pussed out during the confrontations. I felt that if it was the 60's version, he would have been more inclined to duke it out with Atlas, than try to reason with him in the 2003 version. The old Astro would have opened a can of "whupass" :angry: , and he and Atlas would have had a old fashioned donnybrook. I know the writers have to write the story a certain way to pass muster, but why can't we see a knock-down, drag out butt-kickin' between these two? :angry: I would appreciate it.

I totally agree! The Astro of the 80's was a total butt-kicker who very rarely gave the enemy a second warning before he let loose! I havent seen enough of the old stuff but the new Astro isnt near the go-to heroic robot the 80's one was. Mind you Ive only seen the first 6 episodes so I cant say how he turned out overall, but so far his development as a 'warrior' is alot more sluggish... Oh well, the heightened production value's more than make up for it (with the superior sub-titled version anyway, the dubbed version just plain sucks).

Nooooo. Astro was just beginning to discover his powers.
The Anti-Astro forces want the violence addicted bratz to think astro is a wuss. This Anime thing is worth billions.... Look at Pokemon... God man, they were selling Jigglypuff DVD's at the liquer store on the counter in front of the booze!!! I know because I bought it.... The Violent eps are coming. That's why "Neon Express" was delayed. If it's not violent... Kids won't by it. It's got to have sex and violence to sell... You know that. Cute alone don't get it.

Got to go see "Dawn of the Dead"

I thought the other newer one was far funnier than 'Dawn', but cannot remember the title. It starts with a brother and sister visiting a grave, and just become dumber by the minute. Ahh, my sister wrecked my niece. I drew some zombies, skeletons, ghosts, etc, hoping for an expression of fright. Not only was she not frightened as was my oldest niece at that same age, and of those same drawings, but she thought they were funny! It seems she had been brought up on Scooby Doo videos, and had yet to turn 5!

You must be talking about "Night of the living dead".... Well it was a holiday today, because there were plenty of kids at the show. R rating and all. They must have skipped school to be there at noon.

yeah.. that was it. "Return of the Living Dead" it was a horror comedy with a way out rock score. The surfing dead.

Yeah.. the 'Return' series was actually a sort of cross between unofficial sequels (similar to the Universal Soldier series) and parodies of the original Night of the Living Dead movie.

Romero never really intended to make the dead trilogy, but he was VERY unimpressed wit hwhat was planned for these 'return' movies, so he made his own set of sequels.

Note, however that the 'return' movies are the 'official' sequels and the romero ones are the 'true' sequels.

How is this possible?

Its all to do with ownership. Night of the Living Dead as a property at the time was owned by the studio. Therefore Romero has no say in what was done with or to it. Romero as a movie maker, however, can to whatever he damnwell likes, so he made his own 'independant' sequels.

Note that Romeros second and third installment in the 'trilogy of the dead' are called

Dawn of the Dead
Day of the dead

Notice there is no 'LIVING' in those titles??

Return of the Living Dead
Return of the Living Dead Part II
Return of the Living Dead Part III

The studio refused to release the title you see, so Romero just dropped the 'Living' from his movies and there wasnt a thing the studio could do.

Also note the numbering system of the studio movies. The THIRD movie is RETURN II, the FORTH movie is RETURN III..

Their copyright ran out and Romero bought it back.. so the studio could no longer make sequels to the ORIGINAL movie NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, but they could so whatever they liked with their own sequel.

And just to make it even more confusing.. Romero no longer holds the rights to the DEAD series!! It is now owned by John Russo et al.. the team that Romero made the original movie with. There is no animosity or cross purposes there tho. In fact when Russo brought the rest of the original team back together for the '15th anniversary' reshoot fo the original movie Romero was in fact involved in this reshoot in the early planning stages, but had to pull out of his commitment due to him being involved in the making of another movie called RESIDENT EVIL.. Doh!!

Don't you just love Hollywood politics?
