Ok it's late so i'll make this short and add more. Basically i was lucky enough to borrow this off a friend (along with a tape containing 80's series Robot Circus and the birth of Uran).
Basic specs:
16:9 aspect (Letterbox form) ie widescreen
5.1 sound
Creditless opening and ending
character info
short info segment
1-4 episodes
Japanese subtitles
The animation/graphics/visuals are great in DVD format. Really crisp and clean and smooth flowing. No errors what-so-ever.
The sound is fantastic, it really blows you away. We have a 5.1 sound system at home and i had all the speakers set up correctl;y and it was great. There is good use of the rear speakers as well. A great example of this is in the first episode when we see that organic kind of structure as though we are inside Atom's mind as he is waking up. The 5.1 sound is fantastic here and sound-wise it makes you feel as thought you are inside his head too. All speakers are fully used in this segment to give the effect, and this is only one example of good 5.1 sound use.
Extras:
I didn't look at what the subtitles looked like but seeing as they are in japanese i'm sure no-one cares ^^; (plan to rewatch it anyway)
The creditless opening/endings are nice too. At this point i'll note that on the DVD the ending credit's animation is full screen (fills the widescreen) instead of the little box. Both opening and ending have the Japanese lyrics removed form them (i mean the text down the bottom as they play). I gather this is because you can turn subtitles on anyway and it frees up the screen a bit more like this
Basic character descriptions and a pic for most of the major characters (atom, Uran, Ochanomizu, Tenma, Atlas, Tawashi, Robita etc)
The little info segment gives some info and scenes (in 4:3 aspect :wacko: ) on Ochanomizu and Atlas. It also very interestingly talks about how transport (land-air) works in Metro-City
It describes what forms of transport have access to what level of altitude(ie cars, airships, air bikes etc)
And wait there's more
The DVD packaging is really nice and inside they give you a little collectors card which you get with each DVD, the DVD slip with cover pic and a little booklet with info/pics of cool Atom toys that you can buy. There's a few bits mor eof random paper i forgot ^^;
Basically this is a really nice DVD and i seriously hope Sony release one as good as this. The menu system could be a little more flashy and there could be a few more extras but what is there is enough to satisfy anyone.
