Hi,

I don't know if this is an active website or not, but I would just like to say that I don't like the new Astroboy series as much as the old one, because I don't like the new style of drawing, and the music. (Although it is cool that it is back on TV).

What does everyone else think?

Yes the site is active ;)

About the new series, it is normal that a lot a people don't like. As for any change in any serie, the new design, because it is different, cause a disappointment among people who want to retreive what they knew, that is the case for all fans.
Personally, when I saw the first episode I almost hated it :D But now I learnt to see the new serie as a new cartoon, I now know 2 Astros: the 80s one, and the 2000s one. For me they are 2 distinct characters as the graphic is different, but as well the personality.

Please all share your thoughts, I wonder if I am the only one who think of the new Astro as a different one

For me it's hard to tell because I haven't seen that many episodes from the new series yet. I think a lot of us grew up with the 80's version, and so it's always difficult to accept a remake of somethig which you saw and loved as a kid.
I think it's important to maintain a certain objectiveness to everything new. In my opinion, the new version of Astroboy is still very well made, because Astro still looks like Astro, no matter whether it's the 60's, 80's or 03' anime or even the mangas.
However, people who grew up with the 60's anime have to deal not only with one remake but with two remakes, so actually for them it's harder to look at those in an unbiased view.

In a remake, there's always a lack of certain feelings and atmosphere which came over in a former production. Take Astro's birth for instance:
In the new version as Astro comes to life, there's a lot more technical stuff going on during his awakening than shown in the 80's version, so it's actually a lot more plausible like that. But yet I think, Astro's birth in the 80's version features a certain kind of 'atmosphere'. Maybe it's because of the background music (I like Franz List's 'Prelude' a lot), maybe it's because of the way the scenes are changing, I don't know for sure. However, this is just my personal feeling when I compare these two eps with each other ;) .

Anyway, do you understand what i mean? Everyone has their own personal favourite Anime-versions of Astro, and I think that's quite an interesting thing, otherwise this forum wouldn't be like the wonderful way it is if we all would be at the same opinion every time :) .

I personally think the new series rocks! I know I'm probably going to get rotten vegetables thrown at me for saying this, but I saw an episode of the 80's series and I wan't really impressed. What kind of got on my neves was when Astro would say "I know I'm just a robot..." over and over and over again. I like the newer Astro, he doesn't sound like a three year old like he did in the 80's version. Anyway...*hids behind a wall to block the on coming assult of rotten vegetables*

LLjade, I think you prove that what I'm saying is right: the first serie one view, the first one preffer.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems you saw the 2000s serie before the 80s ;)

And of course I won't throw you any rotten vegetables ( I don't have any right here :P )

Yeah, I saw the 2003 series first before I saw the 80's version. To be honest, when I first started watching it, I didn't really form an opinion of the show until Atlas showed up! Yes, I admit it, I'm an Atlas fan! I can kind of relate to him in a way since I know what it's like to have a relative hurt and betray you. And I admit it now, he's hot. *points to her avatar*. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to hurt Tokugawa (the guy who mistreated Atlas in the 2003 version) now. *Pulls out her Golden Shovel of Doom and chases Tokugawa with it around the room while Atlas watches in confused shock.*

I won't criticize you for being an Atlas fan, I must admit that the name I use is the one of an overpowered vilain, it just comes from the German mythology. It's quite fun to be bad sometime :wahah:
( damn! why is this satan smiley missing ? )

;) Your username always reminds me on a teacher I've had when I went to school. His name was Fritz Gafner ( :D ), a very wise man. He used to give us school-kids funny nicknames during the lessons.
:( Unfortunately he died about 14 years ago, but I still remember him well.
So everytime I see your username I get reminded on him (though your first letter is an f :P ).
But this is just me, hope you don't take it the wrong way.
 B)

I saw a couple episodes of the 60's version and like it even though some parts were corny. I also saw a few episodes of the 80's version and liked it also. There was a distinct difference in the 2 series as far as voice, drawing, and how Astro is portrayed. Same goes for the new series. Astro is portrayed as a wise guy sometimes. But it is still a really good series. I have probably seen more of the new series that both the 60's and 80's total. So it depends on the what version you're used to.
