I knew that Tezuka borrowed from Western literature, and it may be sheer coincidence, but as I was reading a text for my Myth & Culture class, I saw where Carl Jung recalled a dream about a beautiful white bird that could transform into little girl. Not only that, but he stated a restriction: "'Only in the first hours of the of the night, can I transform myself into a human being'" (Jung, 482). I immediately thought of Princess Odette and Robotland, since someone else had just mentioned them in another thread.

I think Tezuka liked to mix up some literatures for his episodes . In Robotland, not only Princess Odette got an appearance, but also Prince Siegfried who eventually got eaten by Devil King's dragon.
This is taken from the 'Niebelungen- Lied' obviously, though in the literature Prince Siegfried killed the dragon and went for a swim in his blood which eventually made him invulnerable. Except for one part of his body: his armpit, that got covered by a fig leaf during his bath in the dragon's blood. That was his fate.

Princess Odette and Prince Siegfried are a beautiful pair. I wonder about how the authors
of the original literatures would think about a marriage between those two .

Hagan, who was entrusted by S's wife with guarding his one vulnerable spot, stabbed him instead. I had thought the spot was on his back, though. As far as Prince Sigfreid goes, I only know that the dubb called him that. I think that is one of the first season's episodes, though, & will view it again while paying attention to the Japanse audio.

Reminds me of Achilles. His mother dipped him in some special water when he was a baby that made him invulnerable. Except his heel where his mother's hand was holding him didn't get wet. Ultimately he was killed by an arrow striking him there - his Achilles' Heel.

And I think the movie LadyHawk has a similar theme to story of Princess Odette.

If you mean the movie with Michele Phieffer & Mathew "Ferris, Your my hero" Broderick, thats where the 2 lovers are cursed to be human by day while the other is animal by night exept for the few breif moments at dawn.....Is that the one???

Yeah. It's weird seeing Ferris, er, Mathew Broderick in other roles.
