i was watching the japanese version on my dvd player this morning. liked the episode as it kinda expanded on the character of Astro's teacher. then to my surprise, YTV aired the english dub of this very episode this afternoon. decided to stick around and watch that as well. just to see the differences. i noticed a few cuts here and there.
the most apparent edit is the absence of her song to Jumbo. otherwise, the dub translation seems to be dead-on and accurate.

I watched it this afternoon on YTV and I have not seen the Japanese episode..and I could still tell that the teacher was singing to Jumbo..You can tell how her mouth moves. Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if she sung or not.
Anyone know where I could get a clip of her singing? Or who her voice actress is in Japan?

In the 80s series they cut every song except the opening and closing credits. I bought the soundtrack from Japan and a whole lot of the songs I thought were instrumentals turned out to have Japanese lyrics.

Yea I saw some cuts too. Like the one were they take Skunk to prison. They cut out the first scene with tawashi and the police arriving with skunk at the prison and then they take the scene apart so that one section was at the beginning of the episode and the rest in the middle. You can tell because when astro and his friends are at the water park it's still morning. But when they cut to skunks part they show that the sun is setting and then switch back to astro's part. All of the prison scene was supost to happen after the scene with astro's teacher looking at jumbo out of her room window with the sun setting! See what I mean!

They cut part of Midori-sensei's flashback from after she played a game of tennis... the only one they kept was the graduation one. There were a few cuts of her as a kid too
And that replacing the singing was so stupid
