Introduction in the french version

I recently realize that the introduction of the original version of Astro is different from the one which I saw when I was young (french version).

In the french version, they cut a part of the song to add an explanation of the origin and the birth of Astro before the song.

The song is the same but it sounds different ; better than the english version which sounds old ; as if it had been made in the '60... Tell me what you think about that...

Translation of the text before the song (note that I'm not a perfect translator ):
In a laboratory in Futurapolis (1), professor Balthus (2) created a new robot. However, this robot from the 21th century is not really like the other : it's a child robot. Who could have imagined that this small and fragile creature would have an extraordinary destiny? Nevertheless, how much adventures for the one who was going to become "Astro the little robot" (3)

Changes in french version:
(1) Futurapolis = Metropolis
(2) Balthus = Boynton
(3) The series is named "Astro the little robot" in the french version. But in the story, he is always named "Astro". An exact translation in french of "Astroboy" is impossible.

I wonder now if the english intrduction is the same than in the japanese version...

I watched the french 80's version in my youth back in 1986-'87. Since then I'm completely
'astronized' .

AFAIK, the footage of Astro's birth at the beginning is only featuring in the french version.
The english and japanese openings both are the same and featuring some more scenes
with Astro fighting monsters than showing in the french opening.

I love the french opening and ending theme versions . To me they sound a little bit
more melodic than the english ones and also the singer seems to be a little better in tune,
but then again maybe I'm too much biased by my childhood .

B) Check out anapan's ftp-site. He got plenty of eps in the french 80's subfolder and also different opening and ending themes in the 'videoclips' folder.

The English intro has the same music and footage as the Japanese intro, but the lyrics are different.

The Japanese is something like:

Louis'74 is not French, he has just seen the French version "without audio" (we have talked before about that)
I'm French and I have seen many 80s episodes in French, probably at the same time as Louis'74. Although I remembered almost nothing, I could download some French versions from Anapan's FTP server and I now remember better. If you have questions, don't hesitate

No, I'm swiss actually. I watched those french series on a swiss/french TV channel called TSR. Still my knowledge in french language is rather poor , but nevertheless the fact that I could't understand any french word back then, I just loved the sound of Astro's french voice (and still I love it).

What do you mean 'without audio'? I didn't turn the speaker off while watching it, I only couldn't understand the language

To fill up the left-over time at the end of each episode, they made a little game where Astro would report what happened in that episode to the main computer (Geronimo?) at the science center and purposely make a small error in the report. You were supposed to figure it out and write it down tho I doubt anyone actually bothered. There were a few episodes where the characters would do stuff that didn't make sense because they'd cut out something important earlier in the episode.

Those summaries at the end of each episode not only featured in the french version but also in the canadian obviously. Must've been the same competition.

You're saying there was this game in the french version which you saw in Switzerland when you were young?!

???? I don't remember there was such a little game at the end of each episode...??? I think it would be possible that the french version used in Quebec, Canada is different than the french version used in France and Switzerland. It happens often. For example, I suspect the singer of the french version of Quebec to be different from the one we listen by my link above : I don't recognize his voice and he has an accent of a french. We usually change all the voices to get accent of a quebecer.

Louis'74, I didn't know that some swiss speak english... I thought that most of the people in Switzerland speak french or Dutch...

We don't speak English either in France
I bet many people here don't speak English as first language, we all learnt it as secondary language (or tertiary, etc) because it is the most common language in the world (after Chinese, but Chinese is only spoken in China).
