Perhaps you're wondering how Mister Moustachio aka Shinsaku Ban was created.
During World War II Osamu Tezuka, like his classmates, had to endure the riggers of nationalistic military indoctrination. Clearly and thankfully Osamu made a lousy young soldier who didn't care much for drills as he did for bugs : )
During a break he and a friend were hunting for bugs and commenting on their overly ugly, repressive and rather stupid drill sergent. Osamu's friend grabbed a stick and sketched out a comic face of the imperial nutcase, which Osamu critiqued and quickly redrew to a funnier more squshed looking face with a big "stash"
Needless to say the Godzilla Sensei from hell discovered their drawings and quickly subjected the two boys to a ruthless torture of physical fitness drills.
Shinsaku Ban forever honors this snarling, quick tempered beast of the Imperial Army.
"Astro? You forgot your homework! Do a thousand sit ups.......NOW!"
