Will they be playable on US DVD players? I would love to get the whole 80's series.

They should be zoned "Australia". I don't think USA is the same zone code than Australia :(
Time to get a "no-zone" DVD-reader :D

Seriously, its time any serious movie lover got a region-free dvd player. Too many great films still not available in the US. Basically what it comes down to is whether you enjoy foreign cinema or not (which I assume applies to everyone here). Way too many things not available in the US, including some of my favorite animated films.

I've had good luck with these guys:

However I suggest shooting for a good player, don't try to go bottom dollar or you may end up with a pretty crappy machine.

I just recently picked up this with excellent results:

Stay away from Daewoo players though, I've had nothing but horrible luck from them.

O2 Destroyer....US is region 1 and Australia is region 4! You should try living in Australia it seems all the movies i want to get are in the US! I have imported a few and im not guna stop now, its the only way im guna get the collection i want! Have to admit tho picking up 'The Ninja Scroll' 'Akira' and 'Vampire Hunter D' for under $10 each was sweet! I so cant seem to find anywhere that is going to have Astro Boy deluxe tin set, im in Sydney for god's sake you think every cd or entertainment store would have it, oh well will just have to keep looking!!

Yes, well for most people in the US, there is no need to think about region coding because most movies come out in the US, but some do not, and often these end up being some of my favorite films. A region free player is rarely much more expensive than a standard player, it just requires knowing where to get it from.

Anyway, this one seems unlikely for release in the states. I can't think of who would do it, and they'd probably only release a 4th of it for half the price. Blah!
