I'm writing a fan fic where Astro is fixing up the old Tenma house in the 2003 series after it was turned over to him due to estate laws in Metro City. As he develops with humans and after much of his old memory returns, does anyone think Astro might have a little resentment or anger as to how Tenma acted towards him and Tobio? Maybe have negitive feelings that Tenma was an unfit father and how sad it was that Tobio didn't have the life he should have deserved?

I do not think Atom would waste any time thinking about what Tenma did to him in the past. Granted, being in the house might awaken memories, but, he already lived there in episode 50 anyway. <_< However, if Tenma were to try something new, I think he would deal with it as it comes, but try to forget it once it is in the past. He simply has too much going on and too much going for him to have time or reason for bitterness.

Well I think that since in episode 50 when Astro made up with his father in a touching tearfull embrace, he totally forgave him. There may be some bad memories left lurking in that house, but Astro doesn't carry a grudge, he's very forgiving.

Instead of getting mad or depressed, he would probably think of the day when his father would be released from the funny farm, so he could start a friendship with him. After all he made friends with Atlas, who tried to kill him once.

Astro's electronic brain is too advanced for looking back in anger. Sure, he experiences the same positive and negative emotions as humans, but unlike them, he always forgives his tormentors which makes his mind free for positive feelings and keeps him powerful for good deeds.
Grief is unknown to him, as it is to any other human kids at age 9. They might struggle each other once a while, but shortly after they use to forget about what they were actually arguing.

Someone once compared a child going mad with a thunderstorm.
'For a short time, there's thunder and lightning followed by pouring rain, but afterwards the air has cleaned up by that and the sun's shining again'.

I like that comparison as it has something lyrical.

Yes, I agree with you Strange Wings. I think us adults could learn a lot about forgiveness from Astro and other Tezuka anime and manga. Then the world be a better place, look how nice Japan is right now. One reason is a lot of them have taken Tezuka's message to heart. To them, Astro isn't just a cartoon character, he's in their hearts.

As far as Tezuka being in an mental institution. I'm not sure, but it looked to nice for your average jail cell. After all, he is insane isn't he? But as soon as he's cured I think Astro would welcome him with open arms. Not as a father, mind you, but as a friend.

It takes me back to Feb 9, 1989 and how emotional the Japanese were at losing Tezuka. Of course Hirohito had died weeks before and you didn't see so much emotional feeling for him, World War II and his age aside. Tezuka caused a visable national breakdown, which gauged how important the man was to the cultural heartstrings.
