I understand a DVD box set of the 80s series has been released. Has it been released in the US or will it be? Also I watched the Canadian english dub when I was a kid. Does the DVD set contain anything from the Canadian dub or which dub does it use?

I am able to play import DVDs but I'd rather get a US released set, or atleast get it from a shop based in the US.

Also, while we're on the subject, are there any plans to release the original 60s series on DVD?

You are probably talking about that realease: http://www.astroboy.com.au
Those DVDs are Australia region coded. They have not been released for US yet, I don't know if they will be.
This release has only the English dub, no Canadian dub. The only exception is on the bonus DVD that includes the 2 first 1980 episodes with the original Japanese dub and English subtitles.
As for the 1960 episodes, Madman (the ones who released these DVDs) will release them in a near future, most probably during this year.

I found the 80s DVD set for $50 USD on Ebay!

B)

At first glance I thought it might be a bootleg set but from the description it sounds identical to the real set going for $150 USD ($200 Aussie)

There were 52 episodes in the original work, 51 in the English dub. This one indicates 50 and English Audio. I do not know what it really is. 10 DVDs of eps, + 1 extras disc, region 4, PAL. Perhaps it is the Austrailian release. ;)

1980 serie with only 50 episodes? strange...
Plus there is no image, the seller has only 11 positives out of 13 (1 negative, 1 neutral). Personnally I would not buy blindly to that user...

The name, description, retail price, number of discs, region, video format, and audio format all point towards it being the Australian version. I'd say the "50 episodes" is just a mistake.

It's strange that it's not an auction though, for that price. I'd ask how they're able to sell it so cheap.

Edit: Just checked their selling history. 92.3% positives isn't so great (as fafner mentioned), and more than half their sales have been private.
