I know that Astro's world is fantastic and not realistic, but usually there is consistency in the main plot from one episode to another. BTW I'm speaking about the 80s series but you might as well choose any of them.

There are a few episodes I didn't enjoyed as much but "The Wreck of the Titan" has got to be the worst. I could never figure out why Astro didn't fly to ask for help. He can go to Jupiter on his own but can't fly to a base on the moon when he is already there...?! Feel free to give me an explanation if I missed something...

The White Planet is also one I don't really care about because I don't care about the main character, which isn't really Astro in this case. And I was totally bored watching "The monster of Clarken" because Astro wasn't surrounded by any other interesting character.

It would be interesting to find out if some episodes are on both the "worst episodes list" and the "best episodes list" of people here, or if we usually enjoyed the same stories. :)

Yeah i haven't seen the 80's episodes in oh so long, but in the 2003 episodes I would have to say "Time Hunters" was the worst episode. Just seemed weird and out of place for the new series and the time hunter characters were not drawn very well.

After rewatching a good portion of the 80s series I can honostly say there wasn't 1 bad episode and I'm not saying that because I'm an Astroboy mark. Looking at it objectively at least every episode was good. Almost any show and even the great you can find a couple that aren't quality but not with what I watched. That impressed me. Least favourite I guess is what the question is for me and I honostly can't answer that.

The Western trashing of the 2003 series left a bad burn on the eyes, especially the Atlas 2 parter/

"Wreck of the Titan" was the English name for "The Fool Ivan" which were the 30th and 21st episodes of those E & J versions. However, this story started in manga, as "Secret behind the Moon", the 30th of Atom'a adventures in print. In these manga stories, his flight range is much more limited, he can barely make it to Pochom-pochom Island and back on one tankful of fuel. It is not suprising that he could not fly home from the moon either. There was another 60s episode in which he is marooned on the moon, but this time he is with Lamp and a few other bad guys.

I think that dispite his greater range in the 80s anime, he was limited in that episode to make it consistent with previous versions of the same story.

I for one, really enjoyed the Monster of Clarken, esp. Pipi, the merboy robot. He just could not have been any cuter, except if he had a belly button. :wahah:

I quite liked all those episodes. I thought "The Wreck of the Titan" was quite good. I guess it had some consistency problems (frozen air??) but it had a good ending and some good plot twists. "The White Planet" is one of my favourites. I even named one of my computers after it (my other PCs are named High Spider and Black Devil! ;) . I loved the secret technology built into the car, like when it drilled through the rock and flew sideways along the cliff face. I also liked "The Monster of Clarken", I thought the huge leviathan thing was awesome. Good music too.

My least favourite episode would have to be "Deep City" from the 2003 series. For a start, it had absolutely nothing to do with Deep City. We saw, what, a photo of it? Then it was about trees going crazy with unconvincing looking roots. I saw an episode of CardCaptors years ago where a tree grew crazy and took over a house and the way the growth was animated looked awesome. The roots in Deep City looked absolutely pathetic in comparison. More like ugly worms. There was also blatant repeating of footage, no mention of what the rest of the city was thinking, and no explanation of why Astro had to destroy the robots cutting down the trees. Why not ask the police or whoever to shut them down? And the bit about Astro reading the tree's mind was ridiculous.
End rant. ;)

From the 80s series, I'd say "The Hijacked Airship" or "The Death Balloon" were my least favourites. They just seemed to lack substance and direction.

Thank you Jeffbert, I'll probably be able to enjoy the Wreck of the Titan a bit more since I finally have a valid explanation. At least I won't watch it wondering constantly WHY Astro doesn't ask for help...!

Thank you too, DrFrag. I'll try to clear my mind and watch those episodes again to see if I too might find something in them.

It's interesting that I really like "Save the Carolina 3". I like seeing Astro trying to help his schoolmate when Alvin makes fun of him, I found the Astro/Alvin flight and both of his short battles were pretty funny and how couldn't I like Astro when he gives so much of himself that he ends up so exhausted and in fire... I like "The Death Balloon" too.

As for the 2003 series, I got the impression that everybody liked the Denku episode, but I didn't like it at all. I didn't like the farm episode either. I've yet to see about half of the series though.

I find it interesting to compare my views to yours, so thank you for sharing. :)

This may sound cruel, but I was really disappointed that Denku didn't get killed in the end. I was all prepared for the sad ending like in the 80s series, then suddenly I find they've stuck a happy ending on so no one gets killed.

The whole 2003 series was like this, now that I think about it. The Greatest Robot in the World / The Rise of Pluto was totally butchered.

Well I'm not a kid, but I saw the Denku episode before watching the Light Ray Robot. Actually that's not quite right since I have seen the Light Ray Robot as a child, but all I remembered was a transparent robot making trouble and Daddy Walrus spraying him over with paint...

I thought both plots were very different, so much that I didn't really felt I was watching the same story.

I liked the ending of the 2003 series but beside that, I agree with you.
