So we've already discussed here that in Japan, we more or less see Tobio getting wiped out by the truck.
Moving beyond that, though..... elsewhere in that episode, we see Tenma chatting at an assembly line with a sort of "Astro 1.0", his first attempt at re-creating his son. Astro gets really mad that Tenma wants to disassemble robots, so he does this long slow jump towards the screen... and... uh... then suddenly he's lying in the middle of a huge wrecked crater and his eyes are glowing red. And Tenma's all horrified and erases his memory almost immediately after.
What's supposed to be there?
The Japanese version was about the same. Astro 1.0 or Tobio, as Tenma calls him, gets angry at Tenma for scrapping his friend the nanny robot. Thinking that maybe Tenma might turn on him, he starts trashing the place in a rage, his eyes glow red, but then he calms down and realizes that he went to far. So he slowly approaches Tenma with a remorseful look and says "I'm sorry" Awww, forgive him Tenma. But no, Tenma shuts down Astro with a horrible metal neck ring

(very sad scene, poor Astro) and goes nuts and proceeds to burn the place down. Astro miraculuosly survives and O'shay activates him again, as in episode 1.
I love how Astro tells off Tenma after the flashback. Saying, reffering to the neck ring: "Are you gonna use that thing on me again?" and then "You don't love me. Tobio, Tobio's stand-in Roboto, and now me. YOU DON'T LOVE ANYONE!" You tell him Astro.
But then the scene right after that is the most touching. Astro slowly approaches Tenma again, giving him one more chance. Astro says: "Wait, you said you love me." Then Astro slowly hugs Tenma. Then Tenma starts crying like a baby and falls to his knees and hugs Astro. Awww

That and the scene in a few episodes back when Astor's sister Uran(pronouced Oorahhn, for those new to Astro/Atomu) cried in O'shays arms are great releases of tension, what a relief, made me feel good.

I am back!
About that horrible neck ring, I recall seeing something like it on both LIS & Star Trek.
