Does anyone know if the ringmaster Hamegg (aka Catchatore) appears in the 2003 series? And if so, which episodes?

Yes he does. I will have a quick check to see on which episodes, I just wanted to do a very quick answer :P

He appears in episodes 17 (the rise of Pluto) and 32 (the secret of the Blue Knight). In episode 32 he appears as one of the main characters. He also appears in other episodes as a minor character. Here are some pics so you know how he looks like in the 2000s ;)

I actually found it rather funny how he is absent (for the most part) from the 80's series. The rationale seems to be since he was the ringmaster, he can't have anyother roles, but all of us Tezuka fans know this isn't true... (in fact, Torch/Lamp barely shows up in the series).

I found it funny that in the Pluto ep, he identified himself as a television reporter (Eng dub), but was back to his classic role in the later ep. But if he ideed was a reporter, he seemed to be making the news rather than merely reporting about it. For, he brought his own robot combatants to fight Pluto. ;) Another dumb thing from the Eng dub!

Maybe a little off-topic Jeffbert, but do you know your avatar is not showing? At least it is not showing for me...
When I copy-paste the image URL into the URL editor of my browser it is ok, but otherwise it is not showing. Looks like the server refuses foreign referrers...

Edit: Forget what I said, now it is showing. ( I wonder what happened exactly... did you change something one minute after my post? )

Well, I must not be a big enough Tezuka fan because I don't understand what you mean. And who's Torch/Lamp?

Lamp is the one who instigates the war against the robots in the 2003. He also played a part in Metropolois, but I cannot remember what he did there.

Hamegg is a recurrent bad guy, as well as Torch/Lamp.
Hamegg is the one who Tenma sold/lost Astro to in the 1960 and 1980 series.
Torch/Lamp is a robot hater. He appears in the 1980s in the episode "Uran falls in love", and in the 2000s in many episodes as one of the robot haters leaders ( damn I forgot his name in the 2000s  ).
I will be back later with screenshots and names if needed (no time right now) ;)

I knew who Hamegg was, but didn't (and still don't) understand the "he can't have anyother roles, but all of us Tezuka fans know this isn't true..." part in O2Destroyer's post.

As for Torch/Lamp, that's fine, you answered my question! :)
