Noboru Ishiguro. On the IMDB he's credited as one of the directors for Astroboy. This page here shows the other work he's done in his career. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0410963/
So I have a question for the hardcore anime fans who have seen a lot of anime over the years. Is it easy to tell the influence Ishiguro had on the Astroboy product? Can you look at the show and say, "Hey there's some trademark Ishiguro influence."
Noboru Ishiguro and 1980s Astroboy
That's a pretty tough call. Most of his work was two or three decades ago, well before the anime explosion into Western culture. Having less material to go on I think it would be hard to pick his trademarks.
[cue thinking music]
Astroboy, Star Blazers (Yamato) and Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman) all seemed a similar style to me, much more so than Transformers or Ulysses 31 which I watched around the same time. But I can't put my finger on what it was about them. They just seemed more typically space-age Japanesey to me. This might not be due to directoral style but simply the anime production house circles he moved in. Or who got commissioned in the USA to make the dubs.
It would be interesting to read about his influences and his own thoughts on what his trademark styles and approaches were.
