Why is this? :eek:

I was wondering as I watched Episodes 1 and 2. He's got them alright. Anybody else wonder why he's got em and Astro doesn't?

And...? It's not a big deal. Nipples do not mean woman. Besides, it was just how his character design was, that's all. It has no real importance. Besides, Kid Atlus is only for the first two episodes. This alone is probably the reason Atom didn't have any added. (sense he appears in all episodes, and is more often then not, shirtless.)

I sometimes wondered about that. :lol:

It may be that Tezuka sought to make him easily distinguishable from Atom. Hence, the hair, complexion, etc.

My guess is to show better perspective on his torso curve, since he doesn't have a chest panel like Astro's to help define the shape. Atlas might have ended up looking very flat and two dimensional without chest detail.

Of course, there are plenty of plausable reasons.

I've noticed this in cartoons ALOT! I've seen quite a few where bad guys have nipples but good guys don't. I recall Lex Luthor being shirtless in a Superman cartoon on Kids WB and had nipples, but Superman didn't.

Males in Billy & Mandy often have very prominant nipples.

I don't know, but the wicked sense of humour Tezuka had makes me think about a joke he could do about this:

ATLAS: I'm gonna rule this world, whahahahaha!

ASTRO: No way, I'm gonna fight for peace!

ATLAS: And how? I don't have anymore weaknesses to be discovered!

ASTRO: You have a weakness I don't have...

ATLAS: Wha... [Too late: Astro runs to Atlas and starts hitting his nipples with finger stings]
