Naoki Urasawa's "Pluto"

Postby Kaileocomial » 19 years ago

I noticed that there's no discussion of Naoki Urasawa's comic "Pluto" currently being serialized in Japan... basically it's the story of "The Strongest Robot In The World" expanded & considerably changed. The art & story are presented more realistically than Tezuka's & he changes alot of the minor details, but the major storyline is essentially the same... It features Gerhardt (Germany's greatest robot dectective, Zeron in the 80's series) as the lead character, and Astro/Atom isn't even introduced until somewhere near the middle of the story. It's a very interesting take on the original story, and although I'll always love Tezuka's original story more, I think this one is pretty damn awesome! Scans & Fan translations are available online... I'll try and post a link later, I have it bookmarked at home.

It's really cool to see Astro looking like a realistic normal boy & actually having it be really cool & not at all stupid... I got chills when reading this story myself, and a couple of points almost had my crying! So cool... some Urasawa's other works like "Monster" have been translated into english, so the chances we might see this one officially released are probably pretty good... Apparently he just signed a movie deal for "Monster" as well... (now I'm getting carried away from here on, just to warn you) could that possibly mean that the possibility exists of one day seeing a live action Astro Boy movie that doesn't suck? Only time will tell, but it's a possibility I personally relish!

It's been mentioned here:

And again here:

(Which I started because I too failed to find the original thread. :) )

Feel free to get carried away. :D

I know Monster has been released as an anime and there's a fansub of it. I'm not sure if it's been licenced yet. I keep meaning to watch it.

Seriously? Well, he would do anything for money. So if it is Skunk, that's a pretty good cameo.

I also assumed he was Skunk, after a brief moment of hesitation.

I loved this manga! The way the artist was able to redraw the characters, and still have them resemble realistic people is amazing. The story was also great.
