So I was looking through CDJapan's selection of Astro Boy DVDs and I noticed that there seems to be two different complete line of boxed sets for the 1960s B&W series.
First one I ran across was these two:
First box
Second box
Afterwards I saw these:
First box
Second box
Third box
Fourth box
Fifth box
(Apparently, more are due out eventually)
I was wondering if anyone had ever compared the two releases and could tell me which one was superior, or if they're basically the same except for special features? Yes, I'm honestly considering buying them.
Thanks in advance.

jeffbert knows a lot about the 60s series, and owns DVDs on it. But I don't know which ones... I'm sure he will answer as soon as he sees this post

The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

Welcome 8-Bit Star!
Originally there were 6 box sets, each with 6 DVDs (box 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). Then later they released the first three sets together in Complete Box Set 1 with 18 DVDs, and then Complete Box Set 2 made up of box sets 4-6.
As far as I can tell, the Complete Box Sets are simply a repackaging of the original Box Sets. The DVDs are probably identical. I would buy the Complete Box Sets, it works out cheaper.
They also released 6 individual DVDs with themed "best of" episodes.

Dr. Frag is correct. The first two URLs are to the two 18 disc sets in which the packaging is really bare-bones. I have both. The other URLs are to the attractively packaged (and much more expensive) 6 disc sets. Note the prices Vs the disc count:
$161/18= $9/disc
Vs.
$238/6= $40/disc
Both include the booklets, & the discs are the same, have the same features, extras, etc.

Oh, in case anybody wonders, the two 18 disc sets were released a year or two after the six 6-disc sets. Thus plenty of people bought the more-expensive sets first, before the less-expensive no-frills sets were released.
