Is that Violet?
And in the very first picture, Shibugaki and Tamao? (or Alvin/Abercrombie and Theodore, so everybody understands!

)

This charater's English name is 'Lodar.' I would not care to guess its sex, though.
Yes, Alvin & Theodore. I really do not know their 1960s English names, though I probably noted them somewhere.

The second image... Does astro use eyeshadow, like my Lum?

...
Yeah, I'd better return to my true self.

I meant, is that basically the equivalent character?

That was the one thing I really disliked about the '60s series. I just could not understand why everybody had shaded eyelids.

I found it weird at first, but I think it was their technique for defining the eye shape while the eyes are closed. Like maybe they thought this looked strange and too empty-faced:
And unless I find the original Japanese says Lodar/Violet is a boy, I'm convinced she's a girl. Those eyelashes are too big.

In the Spanish version of the manga Violet is a boy, but, man, those eyelashes...
Good point there, Dr.Frag. Without the eyeshadow, Astro looks even creepy, and has no life on his eyes (in fact we can't even see his eyes).

But maybe they could have defined the eyelids with just a line?
