This is one of several that concerns humans' abuse of other intelligent races. Others are 084 Dolphin Civilization (E: 075 Dolphins in Distress), 168 The Island That Jumped Up & to a lesser extent, 109 Phoenix (E: 099 Phoenix Bird).

In common with 109 Phoenix (E: 099 Phoenix Bird), humans take the object to the lab, Atom discovers an intelligent being inside, & liberates it from the lab, returning it whence he found it. :astro:
