new idea for my Astro Boy game...

Postby zeo » 18 years ago

im not sure if many people really know this, but for a while, ive been working on an astroboy fan-game. recently, its becoming problomatic, what with trying to find decent programs for making said game.
however recently ive come up with an idea im about...i dunno, 95% could work.
a astroboy game similer to Space Harrier.
those of you out there who have played this sega masterpeice may already know what to expect, if you dont, Space Harrier was a arcade shooter game release by sega in 1985. you play as the aformentioned space harrier, shooting many different types of aliens and mutents. for more info, check the Wikipedia page ( : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Harrier : ) and the mobygames page ( :http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/space-harrier-series : ).

at the moment, im going to get a few basic concepts and designs done. i'll post them up here when they're done.
yeah,i too have a deviant art acount ^.^ pop in some time to enjoy the fine art of rubishness!

Well, if you believe it will come out right, but, if you don't believe then it's going to flop like a pan cake. But I think you can do it, you have better computer skills then me. I say give it a shot.

This is how I feel about my cartoon of Astro Boy. We too don't even know if our way of making the cartoon will work. I would like to see this game of yours once it's done.

well, if people have maneged to mkae games like it before, there has to be someway!-i just have'nt found it yet...
alrighty then, heres the first little teaser for you-the sound track for the thing.
now,as i said, its based off mof space harrier, and,as i am to cheep to pay out money to buy FruityLoops and make my own darn music,im going to be cheep, and use the soundtrack FROM space harrier.and remember,mr. krabs is a friend to all =D
their are 4 version currently in existence of the soundtrack-the arcade version, the Game Gear/Master System 8-bit soundtrack, the PC engine/turbografix soundtrack, and the one used for the PS2 3-D remake on Sega Classics collection (witch is the only version i own...pretty pathetic for a Retro Gamer,eh TT^TT) basicly, i want a vote of witch one you think i should use.rather then witch one you,as a person would like, think of witch one works the best.

arcade:

8-bit/PC engine (also has space harrier 2 and the arcade space harrier 1 tracks, but thats not importent.):

PS2:

concept omages are probebly going to follow this, so keep your eyes peeled for them.

Maybe you could use macromedia flash Zeo, I think that can make games, like there’s an online one I play called battleon and that made my flash. :)

15 years ago, I wanted to make my own game. I was already learning C, but then had to learn C++. C++ was the standard for programming games. It takes a whole lot of work, though, because 1st, you must lean to program using it, then, you must actually create the game. I often see an ad for a game-making college, I cannot recall the name. Anyway, I bought a few books on the subject, played with some of the sample programs, but soon became tired of the whole thing. :D It was just too much.

If they have made programs that allow anyone to create a game, I would not expect too much from such a program. It might give you some pieces you can use, but without the C++, you will not likely be able to make any fine-tuning adjustments. Does anybody here know what "fine-tuning" is? :D

if you didnt click the links provided about space harrierhere are the basics you need to know:
-the floors are a chequered patter.either 2 colors,or 2 shades of the same color (that rule applies to space harrier 2,but in space harrier 1,the color scheme was either 2 shades of 2 colors,or 4 shades of one color,if you get my meaning.)
-there are millions of enimies. //end.of.line//
-the backgrounds are pretty whacky and zany
-so are the enimies
-the levels often given whacky names, for example:space harrier 1 had 'Moot','Ida(also the name of the 2nd boss)'.

and now, onto the picture itself. yes, that background/level desing is going to be a final one that i will use ('The Doomsday Moon'),as are those wormie things ('sylicons').also note i have not drawn astro or gyro in a long, long time,so thats wy they look weird TT.TT
look out for plot details ni the next post (what, dont you think this ones long enough!?)

edit: heres a list of alpha level name.for your amusement.use your imagination as to what you think the levels will look like =3
1) illusioin star
2) beta feilds
3) isseling
4) arragon hills
5) domark
6) gargeon
7) fatal asteroid
8) jupiter
9) demios
10) kronos
11) the doomsday moon
12) earth
13) the black nightmare
14) crusador
15) the dark base
16) apocolyptic earth
final) judgement day
