I've never heard of it. Is there a page on Tezuka Osamu world or somewhere else for it?

Spoilers below!

It's a somewhat alternativre storyline that involves Astro going to the past, fighting against the Americans in Vietnam (he defeats 'em without violence to save a newborn baby, but in response the Army attacks the village he saved with napalm, killing everyone there with the baby included, and Astro can't do anything because he has run out of energy), for what he's called The Angel of Vietnam. Then the story continues in 1993, when he recieves energy again, and hes to demonstrate the innocence of a robot accused of murder. He does it, but the robot is executed nonetheless, for pure racism, while the real murderers, presumably, go free. Then he runs out of energy definately.
10 years later Dr. Tenma's/Boyton's son Tobio dies, and Astro is created again, but he can't be activated because the original Astro still exosts, now an ugly, old piece of junk. A friend of Astro then destroys the original one in order to restart the cycle of time, and Astro is reborn. But this is not the end.
To complete Astro, Tenma has been forced to accept money from a mysterious millionare (played by the bald, fat and "sunglassed" guy who plays the villain on various stories), who takes Astro to southern USA to be a bodyguard for a very special being: the first robot to do a request to be a normal citizen! When he gains citizenship and exits the administrative bulding to make a speech about peace and convivence, some hillbillies beat him to death. Astro can't attack humans, so he can't mate nothing to save him. The millionare tells Astro he knew he couldn't make anything, and that he only took Astro to the States to show him how evil man is (the milionare is, in fact, a social activist who fell in love with a female robot). Back to Japan, Tenma and his wife treat Astro like their son, but Tenma decides to get rid of him and sell Astro to a Circus. His wife then divorces from him due to the treatment to their second son. In the Circus Astro is forced to kill oter robots on though fights. Meanwhile, Astro's mother dies from a heart attack (or a cancer). Tenma wants Astro back, but Ham Egg (circus's owner) simply mocks him... This is only half of the story. If you want more, I'll continue it later.

That sounds like the "Once Upon A Time" Astroboy Tales in volumes 6-8 of the Dark Horse manga.

This don't sound like: in fact this is. On Japan they were called somehing like Atom Chronicles. In Spain (edition by Glénat, identical to the Dark house one, currently on Vol.18 and counting) we call it "Once upon a time", too. I'm glad someone else here has read it too.

Metro (I hope he'll won't get offended if I shorten his name) has just put the Japanese name, and maybe this confounded people here. I'm glad this issue is cleared. So, want to discuss?

I'll start by stating that all these strories are very... Different, you know... This saga was made for an adult audience, and it's thougher and much more cruel than all regular storylines...

NOTE 1: Sparx, if you want the rest of the plot, I'll PM it to you, there's no problem there.

NOTE 2: And, guys, talking about somewhat strange storylines when I first entered there you were discussing about some risqué episode involving Astro and... You know... A... House with many women... Were you just joking or is it an actual episode?(knowing Tezuka's twisted mind I would believe everything)

Speaking of Glénat, I think I'll order all the volumes still available here in Quebec (I know it's out of print, but there's a store here that still offers some of them through the net).

I thought you were Spanish but I may be just making this up... Do you have the French version or does Glénat also published a version in some other language?

Also, are they the same as Dark Horse (stories, order)? Because since I can't order them all, I could complete the collection with Dark Horse's, but obviously if the stories are in the same order/volume, it would be easier to follow (in other words, I wouldn't end up with the same stories twice).

While I'm at it, I also saw "Let's draw Manga - Astroboy", I may order it at the same time.

I don't have the answer, but trying to find something about the mangas, I've just read that thread again just a few minutes ago!

(BTW Metropolis might want to discuss but he won't be able to anymore because he's been banned.)
