Classical music in the 1980 Astroboy series

So here's the thread I was thinking of creating (see this discussion). I love classical music, so this could be a fun thread! :D

The Vikings
As the Vikings attack, in the Japanese version:
The Planets by Gustav Holst, and the particular piece is "Mars, the Bringer of War"

In the French/English versions, it's In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard_Grieg (I recall this being asked a few times here in the past years... I find this piece bewitching and apparently I'm not alone! :p I have a version of it with Norwegian lyrics (well, at least I assume it's Norwegian... ) and I love it!

I had taken a few notes of the music from various episodes, but I don't have time to browse through them at the moment. Oh, just one to make sure I won't forget it:

Robot Land
Each time Devil King appears, Night on a Bald Mountain from Modest Mussorgsky is played.

:) Thanks for the info. Some pieces appearing in 'Robot Land' were unkown to me before, those being the ones composed by Mussorgsky. The same episode also contains excerpts from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, as also does the ep 'The Monster Of Clarken' (the scene with the fishes dancing around).

I'm currently trying to watch the whole 80's series again whenever I have some time spared, therefore I should be able to contribute something to the topic here and then. I'll have a notebook ready next to the TV in case I happen to remark a known classical tune. It's like a new expedition investigating the episodes for musical stuff. :D

I'm sure I had taken many notes about the music in the 1980 Astroboy but, alas, I can't find it. I must have left the file on my backup since I had so little room left on my old hard drive. :shifty:

Yes, I love the music in Robot Land! :) One of the piece, I think it's the one played at the beginning when Astro land on the island the first time, is "Danse espagnole", which is still from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake but not as easily recognizable for most people.

The obvious: Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee in, well, The Secret of Bee City. Even I could have thought of that one!

I'm drawing a blank about the rest at the moment... I'll try to find my old file this weekend! :D

I thought it was pretty cool that someone else is interested in the classical music that plays in 1980's Astroboy... But my mind is drawing a complete blank right now!

You already listed the ones that came immediately to mind. X-.
