Let's say our hero is running around the world in 2008. Given the limits of today's mechanical technologies...what feats couldn't Astro do?
I say....lift 50,000+ ton ships

Operate for more than 2 hours before needing a recharge. 10 years ago, I was researching electric cells, & found that even with the newest technology of the time, the electrical power demands of a biped robot are more than the power cells could deliver. The 'battery' technology was the least advanced of all the technologies involved in robotics.
However, while that was 10 years ago, advances have been inadequate since then.
