Whice series do you prefer? 60' 80 or the 03 anime?

Before we start on this Poll i would like to say no fighting cursing flamming or anything childlisk like `2003 series xxxx` and such this is no battle were all Astroboy fans

i must say i prefer the 2003 series, the last episode just made me move to tears , some episodes i could do without but most of them were fun to see i loved the music characters and this series get a bonus for giving my fave character Tenma the atention he deserves ( Tenma fangirl X D )
i also like the redesigns of some classic characters such as Atlas being poytrayed as a teenager is just a perfect rival towards Astro rather then a adult. No offence to any older fans but i was happy to see they scraped out Astro's parents and `special brother coltbalt` Dr Oh Shay should be Astro's `father` IMO.

one thing i disliked is the lack of Nuka, she was my fave character from the 1980, i love that series to but i havent seen much episodes and would like in the future, i love how they potray Uran.

1960 for a black/white anime it was pretty good, not bad at all, i even like Coltbat in this version! i also like it how Osamu worked on it and dared to show mature themes around that time.

I personally love the 1960s and 2003 versions. The artistry and love of the characters roles and feelings made them really great. I dont have a whole lot of love now for the 2009 version; It looks like a Disney knockoff, which yes is what Tezuka was inspired by. But he created a whole new art form, why are we going back to Disney looking art? Anime is still rather new and still has alot of potential, we havent tried 3D anime much yet, like what they did when they remade Appleseed. I can learn to love it I suppose, he looks like the Incredibles meets Astroboy. I just feel Anime hasnt reach its limits yet, Why abandon a great art form?

I like both the 80's and the 2003, since they were both my introductions to the Astro Boy franchise (the 80's ran in 1995 I was two; the 2003 ran when I was ten). The 60's series is very hard to find where I live, and the one episode I saw wasn't very enjoyable, so I can't say much about it.

And like Hikari said, I liked the 2003's recapturing of classic characters. Uran, in that edition, was by far my favorite version of her.

And then the 80's was memorable - in quite a few ways. A couple of the episodes (Astro's First Love, Red Cat, The Light Ray Robot) ended with a character dying/exploding/dismantled, which jarred into my young, newly-formed brain. And other stuff was exciting or funny, like...well, there's too many examples to count.

How dare anybody disagree with me! I understand that others who as children saw either the 80s or the 2003 are more likely to favor them; however, there are qualatative reasons here. Tezuka drew 150,000 pages of manga, & he was in demand; not just characters or stories based upon his work.

I have said this before, but I still say the the 1960s verion is the best; & after reading F. Schodt's "Astro Boy Essays" I know why. As stated in Schodt's book, Tezuka actually did very little to contribute to the 1980s series, & it shows. I was not at all surprised that two of my favorite eps from the 80s were ones that Tezuka actually directed. They had his characteristic physical humor that made the 1960s series so enjoyable.

There were a few episodes in the 2003 series that I particularly liked; however, the series as a whole was very dark, and just about the only light was the innocence of Atom, Uran, & other naive young children. Not only their being cute, but the innocence was important in making them carefree and bright. As an adult, I am all too aware of life's burdens; but when I see a little kid, smiling and happy, in part because he simply has not yet learned of the bad things in life, I just feel a bit better. No, his being young & innocent does nothing to really lift my burden, but perhaps it causes me to recall my own childhood.

Thus, my favorite was the 1963 version.

...I actually knew none of that. :d oh: By the way, wasn't Outer Spaceport R45, one episode I like, directed by him? The Tick & Tuck scenes seem quite Tezuka style.

I like the 2003 version best. It has the best animation, great episodes, and while dark, tended to end better than other Astroboy stories. That being said, I think the Manga wins over all of them, being the original Tezuka wrote, and what got me into the series

Thanks, i have not seen any of the episodes made in the 80's of Astroboy, i do know i would love all of them anyway. I am a fan of animation, and love Astroboy as one of my favorite animated series, have love the series even since i first seen Astroboy flying on television. I love all of the Astroboy's series made.
