I've always wondered, just how is his name spelled? Is it Astroboy like in Superman, or is it Astro Boy? I've always assumed it was spelled Astroboy but whenever I type it in search engines, they always ask "Did you mean Astro Boy?" and I get more results from typing it that way

It's "Astro Boy".
"Boy" is not technically a part of Astro's name, as "Tetsuwan" is not a part of Atomu's name.

Think of it as a title.

Are you sure it isn't "Asuteroboi" ? ;) I think I heard it this way in the closing credits of the Japanese 1980s (with the 'u' almost mute).

I just checked with both google & Babelfish translations of the J-lang TOW page, & Tamao's voice actress is

Fish: "The く Motoko will not"
google: "Bears like potatoes" :p
