Does Astro have a temper?

Postby Dragonrider1227 » 17 years ago

I don't know if this was explored at all in the new series (I havn't seen enough) but I noticed that old versions, Astro seems to have a bit of a temper. I was watching an old 60s episode where this man had captured Astro's robot teacher, Uran/Astro Girl, and another robot student and when he freed them and grabbed the villians, he was just a few steps away from tearing that guy a new one until his teacher stopped him. He got all mad and quite literly steamed but he did as he was told. Another time in the manga, I recall when he was fighting the double of the magician robot goin around stealing things and when he had brought him down he said "I'm going to unscrew your neck bolts so you can never move again" but the real magician stopped him. So it seems to me that Astro can get REALLY mad sometimes

I guess Astroboy is still learning about himself when he lost or almost lost his temper, or seem too. Thanks and hugs Dragonrider1227.

Looking at today's world it would be a serious challange for Astro not to blow a gasket or two at some dumb things we humans do over and over again.

Let's face it, Tenma built the kid with 24 hour neutral Zen.

Astro can get pretty mad, but he has an immense amount of self control (good thing considering his 150khp fist), which was probably a big point that Tezuka was trying to get across.
In WWII, if you had an intense weapon (ie:nuclear warhead), you used it on your enemy without hesitation.
That's a military/arms race no no nowadays, you use that weapon if you have no other recourse.
It's like what the Red Dragon in Bone said; "Never play an ace if a two will do."

an excellent point. A thought that came to me when watching the the first episode of the B&W series. When the circus burn down and he has to save the ringmaster, I thought it rushed to save him a little too quickly. I thought there should've been a brief moment where he got angry with the ringmaster for how he treated him and the other robots and question if he should really bother to save him. Of course, Astro would save him anyway, but I thought it would add a sense of human personallity to him if he actually wondered if he should save him or not. Maybe they'll put it in the movie. I hope so.
